Thank you for the pictures as to why the AMP9 won’t fit. Makes me curious if my modded AMP8 will fit as it’s a different mod from the EX.
Will have to take it apart to compare.

Getting a steady approx ten hours with each use.

Got over 100 hours on the DX240 and will soon start loading up the amp modules spare cards to try out some comparisons

Amp1mk1/amp1mk2/amp1/mk3

Then amp1mk3 versus amp8

(Versus DX300 probably later)

Bass has settled and tightened up, treble also. Business as dap usual
SQ wise should be bet. dx228, dx229 and the 300...

Since I only have a dx160, why would the dx240 + amp8, be a better buy than the dx300?
I have a DX220 AMP8. I like the sound of the DX312 better, it sounds almost like a stationary DAC, more deeply and musically. I think that the DX240 is a logical development of the DX200/DX220, but I'm still waiting for feedback on its sound to make a purchase decision.

For those who were curious why only amp1-8 could be converted for use with DX240, and not NuTube amp9, here are a few pictures that worth thousand words

AMP9 on the left and AMP1 MKII from DX240 on the right - most likely won't fit. Thus, amp1 through amp8 only.

The real reason is that they've redesigned the chassis, for some odd reason. Have they kept it rectangular with the same dimensions, it would have fit just fine :)

I'm really looking forward to the first sound impressions from the DX 240, especially with the Amp 8 compared to the DX312. The DX240 appeals to me more visually than the 300. Somehow it looks on the photos that the volume regulator looks somehow more stable.I'm thinking about buying the 240 as well. For the simple reason that it fits better in your pocket for on the go.

1:35am….

zzzzzzz

Felt motivated to do some comparisons.

I have my lengthy notes typed up in a draft.

Short and curly of it is that sound wise DX240 is an advance certainly of DX200 and also of DX220.

Using the stock amps which have their own differences, and the DX240 dac difference. Low gain, brickwall filter, CA Andromeda v3 2019.

Later after i had eliminated DX200 (well that happened anyway with the DX220 review way back anyway).

Then…um…yeah. I hot swapped amp8 continuously between them for a while. Opps - my bad.

DX220 is a bit more closed in, DX240 is more open, more resolving and dynamic. Both are excellent. With DX240 i was hearing more of the music and it was a nice coherent whole.

I do wonder about DX220/amp8EX versus DX240/amp8…

Next up:
DX240 stock amp and amp8
versus
DX300 amp11mk1/amp11mk2/amp12

DX240 still has that powerful feel like the DX220 but has a certain finesse, delicacy and refinement about it.

Zzzzz, sleep time…zzzzzzz

This means that there is no need to rush to change the DX220 to 240?

Well there never is really. Maybe. No, Yes, possibly, Probably…

DX220 was a bigger jump (past the DX200).

DX240 is ahead of the DX220 certainly (but not as big a jump as DX200 to DX220).
The contrary phrase that came to mind when i finally woke up this morning was ‘its more dense with more space’. Word salad.

It gives me a memory of the amp1mk2 + amp8 = amp8EX. Which was space, dynamics and detail paired with power, body and depth.

I can hear a difference in performance for sure.

For some it might be a side grade, others an upgrade.

Certainly if you are running DX220 mid fi earphones and just using internal files or a micro sd card you might consider upgrading your earphones first.

iBasso always goes forward with each new release so its not a surprise. It would be strange to have lower performance/ sound quality ( speedier os, ui, internals etc besides).
Two and a half years is quite a jump in dap world.

I am quite curious now as to DX240 amp1mkiii/amp8 versus DX300 (Amp11mark1/Amp11mark2/Amp11mark2)

Anyway… :)

Meme intermission

And no disrespect to you however this is simply your opinion. We all know music is based on perspective. So I think keeping that in mind until we have the opportunity to hear many perspectives and make a better judgement at that point.

Thank you for your review. 👍

Well that goes without saying.

Unfortunately at this point only a couple of people have the DX240 in hand.
Early piecemeal impressions drip fed are so people can enjoy having an early read/small taste of subjective opinions (and take them with a grain of salt) whilst they wait for more units to go out to writers or consumers.
People have asked for early sound impressions. I took the time to respond.

The other option is to wait for mine and other full write ups to be totally finished and posted in a few weeks. I am fine either way. The second is more leisurely for me.

Thats the dilemma.

Its always good to get as many points of view/reference before a purchase or anything. I think so too.

Full review still incoming. Early days yet…did some DX240/amp8 versus DX300/Amp11mark2 comparisons and write up this morning…it was more interesting and exciting to me than DX220 versus DX240.

But maybe we will wait for someone else to post theirs first.

:)

What are your first impressions about DX240/amp8 versus DX300/Amp11mark2 so far? :) What are overall sound signature differences in short? :)

Still undecided between green or black. Where it's possible to buy the letaher case and the Amp card adapters?

I'm still trying to figure out what Ibasso was going for with the 240. Is it supposed to be the upgrade path for 220 owners so that they can use the amp modules? Whereas the 300 is it's own separate thing? I'm just thinking that the 240 is too close in price to the 300 if the 300 is supposed to be their TOTL dap. The 240 and 300 are both obvious upgrades to the 220 in regard to features, UI, operation and battery life. But in terms of sound, is 300 supposed to be better than 240 such that 300 is their TOTL? Or are they both considered TOTL but for two different types of people, namely those who have the old style amp modules and those who don't?

Or maybe I'm just overthinking it ...

I think you are on the right path.

I have compared:

DX200/DX220//DX240 with stock amp1 amp modules

DX220 stock amp versus DX240 amp8
DX220 amp8 versus DX240 Amp1mkiii

DX240 stock versus DX300 Amp11mark1
DX240 stock versus DX300 Amp11mark2
DX240 stock versus DX300 amp12

DX240 / amp8 versus DX300 Amp11mark2
DX240 /amp8 versus DX300 Amp12

I dont think i will run through amps 2,3,4,4s,5,7…

Maybe theres more in my nearly finished unpublished review. I forget.

Waiting for some other opinions and perspectives first as i do not want to clog up the thread with mine.

Should be in peoples hands in 2-3 weeks going by one reputable retailer who messaged me yesterday.

F47DB0D9-AA3A-4ED4-BA31-A93C9CB27D06.jpeg

I was going to do a versus Max220 and Max300 - just for fun. Not sure.

Listening to DX220 with amp9 since a long time - as DX240 is using amp8.
- might do a comparison between them both…

I have not hooked up the iBasso cup to any live wires though :)
