This only means iBasso needs to put out an 'AMP3 MKII' for DX240 owners based on the AMP3MOD right?
Well i think there should be amps:

- with different jacks/outputs 3.5/2.5/4.4/LO etc to suit each user

- also different sound signatures (variety).

The main problem is the lack of space on the DX240 amp card for both multiple outputs/jacks and also complex advanced board design.

Lots of trade offs

Probably why the amp1mkiii and amp8mk2 share similar sonic qualities.
- standard pleasing 3.5mm (plus 2.5mm cause space limitations)
- then something to please the 4.4mm crowd (me included).

DX300 has more space on the amp card which is probably why they were able to release two amps amp11mk1/mk2 (a pleasing array of jack choices) and amp12 (4.4mm for die hard enthusiasts) with different signatures.
- and soon the tube amp card…

I would like to see a general release of something like the amp3mod (with a few more minimal tweaks) - but choosing which output/s would please the community most is difficult i guess.

Its a good test the waters piece if anything at least.( assuming whoever has received one also gives feedback to iBasso for their future amp developments).

*my unqualified 2 cents

Already owning Amp8MK2 - is there any of the older amps worth buying?

I havent tried em all out.

But i would say probably no.
(Amp8EX an exception).

But thats an untested answer

Old amps tested:
Amp1mk1 (maybe tested?)
Amp1mk2
Amp4
Amp4s
Amp5 (maybe?).
(I did not try amp7 as its close to amp8)
Amp8
Amp8EX

Not tested
Amp2
Amp3
Amp6 - gave away the DX150/amp6 to a local musician.
Amp7.
Amp9 (does not fit).

The DX200/220 amps reached their pinnacle with amp7 and amp8.
- (amp9 is also great but does not fit into the DX240).

Subsequent amps are largely built on the Amp8 design. And developed further.
Amp8 nearly holds it owns and dampens the high end sheen a bit, but after a while it just seems common sense to use the amp8mk2 instead as it performs better. Imho

But who knows you might find a particular synergy that works for your ears and earphones.
- what sounds good or bad for me might work out beautifully for others.

Tempted to try and fit it in the DX240 again.

Interesting that the Roon app works at the correct sample rates. That's a first AFAIK, other than A&K "Roon Ready" devices. Is MQA from Roon working as well?
Roon's sample rate shows up correctly in the taskbar sample rate, so thats where I am getting that from, however Roon upsamples automatically to 192, which is a little annoying but I guess that's how Roon on Android works now. That was a surprise to me since this wasn't the case with Hiby or Sony at least when I had those players.

I guess i should caveat that on other players, I've seen it read one way through the Roon DSP and then flip back to 48KHz as end output. I think in this situation Roon handles the upscaling instead of Android downscaling.

Ah OK. I guess that's similar to my M11 Plus on which Roon upscales everything to 384K with the Roon app. Not really what we want (MQA doesn't work either). Thanks for the info! I really wish Roon would improve the Android app to allow bitperfect streams to these modern DAPs.

What's so good about this uapp player over the installed fare.
BTW, I love the trial peroid of 20 minutes, are they kidding here?
You can make it sound "better" than the stock Android Mango player. Especially in the USB Audio settings (Which does affect sound sig for local files as well) were changing from DSD to PCM (Already sounds more direct/better than the stock Mango player to my ears) to => DoP (DSD over PCM) which gets you an even purer sound signature (Native DSD has a veil over it). 16/44 Flac's sound fantastic but DSD's even much better than before.
