Hello, all! Many years have passed since the release of the DX200, and much has been made of the merits of the relatively new DX 160, which is a beauty.
Purely on the level of sound reproduction, is it the opinion of those here that the DX200, while older and more cumbersome/slow, is still technically superior to the DX160?
Additional context: I've used the DX90 on the go and as a digital transport for home listening for many years. Lately I've been using a 1TB SD card that the DX90 is having difficulty indexing, so that put me in mind to upgrade the DAP to something that is next level.
The DX160 seemed perfect, but it has virtually disappeared from the market. Then I saw a new/old stock DX200 selling for $399 (same retail price as new DX160) via Amazon, with free returns should the unit be bogus. This made me wonder if the formerly TOTL flagship DX200 that so many have celebrated in the previous pages of this thread still ranks above the DX160 in terms of sound.
I listen exclusively to high-quality lossless files and use a DAP as a dedicated music player. I do not care for streaming and watching videos on the device or playing games, etc. I appreciate the lovely form factor of the DX160/240/300, but while the striking looks and screens are undeniable, they are not decisive aspects for me. I've also noted that various people have reported battery issues ~two years into having the DX160, whereas it appears that replacing the battery of the DX200 is relatively simple (though not as simple as with the DX90).
So I wonder what opinions people may have about the relative merits of the sound reproduction between the DX200 and the DX160, and the value represented by a "new" DX200 at $399 in today's DAP market.
You can se it this way. Dx200 was a totl player back then(with top of the line components and sound) and still sounds like one today. The DX160 is a mid range player that replaced/upgraded the dx150. Only upgrades to dx200 soundwise is dx220/dx240/dx300 lines which are also totl players from iBasso. A mid range dap will not sound as good as dx200 does, and you can mod the dx200 to ex which would be a massive jump I sound quality. For 400bucks go for the dx200.
Used to own one before getting the dx220, it's a fantastic sounding player, which also supports tube Amp in form of amp9.

Dusted my DX200 off. Haven't really used it much in the last year or so, but I wanted to start using it more.
First it seems like my battery might be on the fritz. It said it was around 27%, but kept shutting off. Also seems to be draining quickly. How can I get a new battery?
Second I updated Tidal and for some reason I only get audio on MASTER tracks. I tried changing the limited settings and re-installing the app, but no luck. Any thoughts? Running Tidal is a big reason I've kept it.
I recently dusted off my DX200 as well. The N6II that I've started using again because I'm commuting regularly again wouldn't start up Android so it had to go in for repair with the agent.
It works like a charm and I was able to connect the RU6 to it using the type C connection.
Haven't heard the m11 but I can say the Dx200 isn't warm, and I wouldn't call it smooth nor sharp, to me it seems fairly neutral, nothing seems boosted, not bass, mids or treble.
It was ibasso's "reference" DAP so it's going to give the whatever is in the mix, as it is. amp cards give a wee bit of warmth but not a drastic difference, the dx150 is a bit warmer, more fun and less analytical, bass is a bit more textured and hits harder, highs are smoother (from memory)
I recently got a brand new DX200 and the battery life is fairly poor compared to my old DX120. Using the most recent firmware I can get about 6-8 hours of play time on a full charge. That is with the player as a transport only, using the optical output. Is that normal? Just not sure if I should be looking to replace the battery, or if flashing a different firmware may improve the battery life. My years old DX120 can go around 24 hours on a single charge using similar settings.
If somebody is interested I'm selling DX200 amp9 plus amp1 with original box, case, and new original battery took from Paul. Lurker firmware & mango player from DX220 are installed.
I just bought the hiby r5 saber and am second guessing as I saw this (dx200) brand new for 400 shipped with us warranty. What a steal!
Anyway just wanted some opinions on pros and cons between these two players.(hiby r5 saber vs ibasso dx200)
I am honestly going to use it mostly as a transport to my dac to stream nugs.net.
I will also be listening occasionally via a zmf Auteur and a Verite Open directly from the single ended connection and eventually the balanced once I upgrade my cables to Balanced.
Will the dx200 even drive higher ohm headphones like zmf to high loud levels? Even from SE?
