Nice post!

I guess if one has already purchased the DN-1000 there is no need to be on the prowl for the DN-900.

Have the Dn-900, but haven't had a chance to take a first listen yet. I will soon.

Dunu DN-900 vs ATH IM50/70.  Which one wins?

Not a fair comparison at all. Both are so different. But until I can write more on the DN-900, I can simply say the Dunu is basically mids focused. The IM70 has some nice forward mids too, but it's not mids focused. The bass and treble are equally incredible. I think the Dunu mids are more refined though (a good thing), but I have to A/B them again sometime soon.

I find them be a little better than the SE215 on a technical level, but the sound sig is different. Personally I like the SE215 sound sig quite a bit better because I'm not a fan of mid centric sound sigs.

Do you think using ipod shuffle as a music player on my newly bought dunu dn-900 would suffice?

Sure, or you could consider one of the Sansa players. Clip+ or clip zip. Cheap and super effective.

I am worried because I might not get the optimum experience on my dunu with an ipod. I saw fiio, cowoon, etc. here that's why

Your iPod will be just fine for DN-900, as I said if you want to get a little more out of them then I suggest the Sansa Clip Zip. Even though I own some higher end gear, I still use this combination on the go as it's rather effective. You can check out the Zip here in the link below.

If you want to spend a little more than consider FiiO X3, iBasso DX50, Colourfly C3 as alternatives. Honestly though the Sansa unit will be just fine.

What is the use of an expensive DAP, for example, Fiio X5? How great it is compared to a cheap music player like an iPod, or an android smartphone?
