Actually no it's not. the only reason it's used as plating on connectors is because of its resistance to corrosion and won't react to air (which both silver and copper do - tarnishing / oxidising). Gold has lower conductivity than both silver and copper, and higher impedance. So for cables - as long as you can cover correctly - your best conductors would be silver or copper.
