reddragon anything else sound better with dubstep hip hop? electro?

Dt990 like malveaux said, I would like a bit more subbass and deep bass rumble for dubstep. I have Sony xb500 which has a lot of bass. In comparison, dt990 is not bass heavy at all. I don't think xb500s sound quality is anything special though. Also I don't listen to enough dubstep on xb500 to tell you subbass but midbass is very prominent when I listen to rap on xb500. I would also bet the subbass on xb500 is heavier than dt990 if I have to guess but take that with a grain of salt because I really haven't compared the 2 in the subbass region. I don't use my xb500 often.

I hadn't heard my denon 2000's that I sold YEARS before I bought my dt990's and even then I thought in comparison they were lighter on the bass! I think with the right amping they MIGHT be ok, but hearing what the 650's can do with bass really blows away the 990's and the 650's are not even bass focused headphones!

You're all crazy. The 990 Pros have a substantial amount of bass. Too much really.

Comparing the sound quality of the 990 pros to the XB500... I would lol loudly if someone mentioned them bing in the same stratosphere.

All the XB500 has is bass. Nothing else. It's a bloated, muddy, congested mess. Tthe 990s at least sound like audiophile cans with a preference towards bass and treble.

I prefer the 990s to the Ultrasone Pro 900s which cost twice as much. That says a lot.

Bass isn't everything.

Agree.  XB500 is a subwoofer for your head.  It isn't designed to anything but provide bass.

The 990 pros have substantial bass and isn't lacking in sub-bass.  I just wish you all could hear the 990s through my yamaha receiver.  The entire bass spectrum is present and profound.

Exactly. The DT990 Pro is a basshead can for audiophiles. It's fantastic for that. If all you want is bass, just save your money and buy the million fart cannons available everywhere.

DT990's lack of sub-bass was the biggest reason why I bought D2000 and ultimately sold off my DT990, but now I'm really liking the HE-400, which doesn't have all that much more sub-bass than the DT990.  I think having less treble helps a lot as well.  I kinda want to get rid of my AD700s and use a DT990 pro for gaming purposes, but I don't think I could live with the shallow cups of the DT990s again.  I just remember prog rock being sooo good on the 990s.

Interesting that I returned my 990s for the same reason to buy the 5000's. Since having the 650's for a while I see what i'm missing though, not having cups sure helps out acoustics a lot. I love so much about the denons and I love my low end, but honestly I would bite the bullet because the 650's are just that good. Will be in possession of the mad dog modded t50rp and he-400 in a few days so my mind might change again.

There really was nothing super wrong with the 990's, it was just looking past the nice quality of the aesthetics that I found myself thinking it could be a lot better than this, even for a open cans.

For $165 or so that the 990 pros are going for, there is no room for complaints. They simply smoke everything I've heard in that price range and then some, assuming you understand that the treble is still that 990 treble.

In any case, don't see why people are comparing the 990 pros to the HD650 which cost more than twice as much, and has a completely different sonic presentation. Apples to oranges.

They sound like a $165 set actually. I paid $300 for mine because they were the 600ohm ones though lol. I guess I kinda forgot they are cheaper cans.

i didnt say xb500 and dt990 are on the same level in sq, i was referring to sheer bass quantity. its lack of everything else is why i dont use it very often. i havent heard the hd650 yet...

The DT990 Pro 250ohm =/= 600ohm. They don't sound THAT alike, actually.

If you haven't heard the Pros, you can't base your impressions off the 600ohm. There's your first mistake. The Pros have a much fuller bottom end compared to the Premiums. MUCH fuller. The Premiums sound like a headphone with a nice amount of emphasized bass. The Pros are a basshead can FIRST.

I was under the impression that the only difference was the build (cord/clamping force) between the premium and pro 990s :S

And it's your opinion that they sound like $165. To me, and a lot of other people, they are $250 worthwhile, and then some.

As for the Premium DT990s, I like them almost as much as my D7000 and HE400, and actually prefer them to the HE400 for certain things. The D7000 has my fave sound signature out of any headphone, but they lack velour pads, so they just aren't for me anymore.

Your assumption was wrong. I A/B-ed the DT990 pro vs the 600ohm directly. There is quite a significant difference in bass quantity, enough to consider them different headphones.
