Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade from my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro to one of those aforementioned headphone. But I don't know which one is the best choice under 250$. So I need your help.

Which one of them do you think has better sub-bass & bass quality (with decent quantity), better mids & highs, better soundstage & imaging, better clarity and detail?

I mostly listen to Crushing doom metal (Funeral / Drone & ...) & Ambient (Dark / Black &...) using my PC + Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, but if I need an amp for any of them I can get something about 150$.

Thanks in advance.

I would assume the DT880 (premium or Pro) 250-Ohm headphones are in more in need for amping, then SoundMagic HP 100 32-Ohm headphones.

Maybe sell off the 212 and put the cash towards a new DAC/Amp?

Thanks PurpleAngel.

As I've mentioned earlier in my post, I would get an amp if I get any of them & I think I don't need to get a DAC when I have 2i2. So the only important thing for me is quality of these 3 cans.

I used to own the DT880 Premium 250 OHM. You will definitely need a good amp to get a good sound from them. They have a nice low bass response and the highs sound nice. I like Sennheiser's sound signature better than Beyerdynamic's though. If you love your mids, I wouldn't get the DT880's. I find them to be pushed back more than most headphones I've heard. I can't give an opinion on the other two options, I have heard neither. Have you considered the Senn HD600? You might be able to find a pair used under $250, amazon has some in "like new" condition for around $300 if you could bump your budget a little.

I never heard HE-300 or DT880 but FWIW I prefer HP100 to DT770, DT990 and HE-400 but I don't like HD280 when I auditioned one, albeit admittedly shortly.

No, bumping won't work. 90 hours & 3 replies. It seems I should get one of them based on reviews and until now it would be
1st.DT880
2nd.HP100
3rd.HE-300
