I want a second set of headphones that are less analytical and lean and have more of a juicy sound that I can get lost in.

I find the dt880's walk the line between analysis and juicyness

I'm thinking along the lines of the HD 580's, or HD650's,
& I have a Corda Aria which could run them for the time being

any suggestions?

I have the complete opposite problem. I have a Darth and I find the sound very thick, solid and syrupy, great for kicking back and relaxing. Now I want to get the DT880 for the analytical side of things...

Be warned though, the Darth sound isn't for everybody.

Obvious one: DT990? It's said to be much juicier, though I compared the DT880 and the old 990, and could only hear an improved soundstage on the 880.

Then again, juicy=smaller soundstage. So, DT990?

Very interesting. :| HD650's will be juicier for sure but I don't agree that either DT990 Pro's or DT990's '05 are juicier, mainly due to more hidden midrange. Big empty bass and exaggerrated trebles is not the way to make music juicier IMHO.

I've considered getting a different amp and I will eventually but right now I want a second set of headphones to get better perspective on my music.

From what I've read Grado's have a fatiguing high end and forward sound.

I don't find the treble on my DT880's fatiguing but I wouldn't want any more, and I'm also looking for a more laid-back sound, but juicy sound.
Also comfort and circumaural design are important to me.

The ATH-W5000 are definitely an option, thank you!
From what I've read, they sound very lifelike too.
Are the ATH-W5000 worth the price if I were to run them from my meager Corda Aria?

How do the HD650's compare to the ATH-W5000 & the DT880's?
If I got the HD650's I would most likely buy a high-end amp to run them...

You can perhaps try the Grado RS-1 or the HD600 with the cardas cable.

Cheers

As I said, I couldn't hear any strong points on the 990's, the old ones that is. I liked the soundstage on the 880's well enough to trade in the 990's I had for a week for the 880's, which don't disappoint, though I'm thinking of upping the lows a tiny bit in FB.

W5000 has more similarities with DT880 signature then HD650.
HD650 has fuller sound, more authoritative bass, laid back, relaxing presentation, details seem like all there but not that easily picked, it might lack just very last bit of micro resolution that W5000 has. W5000 are just incredible detailed.
If someone asked me which one I prefer, I wouldn't know the answer, they really compliment rather than compete with each other.
But again, seems like you are after DT880 signature after all, that makes W5000 a better candidate out of two.
