Hey guys I just got my DT880 600 ohm headphones on tuesday. Ordered them from B&H. Sold my K702's in search of something with a slightly warmer sound signature but still detailed. I think I have found what I am looking for in the DT880/600. I really like these headphones. They are very balanced the first difference I noticed coming from the K702's is the bass. I know the K702's didn't seem bass shy to me at all. The bass was definitely there, however it didn't have the authority that the DT880's do. The K702's went just as deep if not deeper than the DT880's do, they just didn't have the impact the DT880's do.

I also find the DT880's to be very detailed like the K702's were. I tried a pair of HD600's that I borrowed from a friend and loved how much fun they were to listen to compared to the K702's but I really missed that soundstage and the resolving detail the K702's had. So I started doing some research and many said the DT880's were similar to the K702's they were right. They resemble the K702's however they are definitely a bit warmer with more bass impact.

I am really happy with how they sound out of the C-2C with the Benchmark DAC1 (using that until my PS Audio Digital Link III arrives it is currently on backorder).

But overall I think the DT880's are a very balanced headphone with alot of the resolving detail I loved from the K702's while adding a bit of warmth and bass impact making them more fun to listen to.

If – and this is a big if – I were to open my wallet again and upgrade, I always thought the K701/K702 or the DT880 600 ohm would be at the top of my list. Thanks for the comparison.

Nice concise comparo. Makes me want to spend serious time with the new 880/600's.

Glad you're enjoying the Beyers. I got a pair of 880 600s a couple weeks ago and am going absolutely insane waiting for my LD MkIII to arrive. I can't stress the importance of proper amplification enough. I'm currently using the built in amp in my E-MU 0404 USB which is in no way up to the task. It needs to be turned up to 60-75% with the system volume at 100%. At this level the mids and lows don't have enough presence and the highs are shrill and fatiguing. I'm still appreciating the great detail these cans provide though. Come on, Chinese post!

Try them with a pre-resistor, even Beyer themselfes recommend a 150 ohm feeding. Takes a bit more warmth and naturalness into the mids section, and also bass gets increased a bit.

This brings up an interesting semantic question. I have compared K701s to 880/600s, and I believe the 880/600s have the deeper bass.

So here's the question: If Headphone A bottoms out at 35 Hz but is nearly razor flat up to that point, and Headphone B bottoms out 30 Hz but is -3db at 30 Hz and -2db at 35 Hz, which has the "deeper" bass?

That is a good question. Like I said it may be deeper on the K702's not sure though as I shipped them off 3 days before I got the beyers so I am going off of memory on that one.

I bought mine from B&H. They had them on sale for $304.95 It was the lowest price I could find at the time. Their website is bhphotovideo.com you can check them out not sure if amazon has them any cheaper.

I hope I don't sound rude but can you explain why the 600ohm would be better than the 250 ohm - do they use different drivers?. I plan to purchase the 250 ohm version (but not amp them yet).
