The DT880s are up there alright. High end stuff isn't that much better at all as opposed to what you may hear people say.
 
Mid-fi is the sweet spot. You know you have something excellent but there is no buyer's remorse because it is not that expensive, unlike with high end stuff where you are spending loads of cash for very small improvements.

well there is a warehouse deal.for the 250ohm for 180 but its only "very good" condition instead of like new. I don't want to have to send back another pair then have over 400$ on my credit card bill when I didn't get anything yet

DT990 is bright and bassy.
DT880 is warm neutral.

I certainly wouldn't describe the DT880 as "warm". Neutral yes, but warm?

I would say the DT880 is more neutral with a slightly thin sounding midrange and boosted treble.

Would you consider the dt880 the 250 or 600 a significant upgrade from share 840 with e10 amp

That means it's the stock standard 250 Ohm version. My 250 Ohm DT880 doesn't have anything on the plug as well.
