DT-770 question

May 17, 2006 at 7:27 PM Post #76 of 110
I'll be getting the laptop before I go to college, but my parents want me to have stuff that will benefit me for college.

Okay, I think I'm gonna shoot for JUST the headphones and the amp.

I'm 99.9% sure I have a buyer for the FC7's, so thats where I get the PA2v2 money.

Ooh I'm so excited (again!)

I agree with Mercuttio, if you haven't heard anything else that is in audiophile league, it will blow you away.

My first setup actually was a DT770 and PA2V2 running out of a laptop. It worked pretty well for most music, esp. bass laden ones; and was simply the best for gaming, esp. if you want 'teh xplosions'

I got rid of them owing to wanting to try open cans, but I might snag me another pair and have them headphiled with screened covers.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Good luck. Once again, this is a longer term investment than they think. Those headphones are rock solid, and will last 10+ years. Better sounding things will come out in that pricerange years down the road, but those will ALWAYS be able to play music and sound as good as they do now.

Thanks for all of your help Mercuttio.

Hopefully my parents will realize what I'm doing.

I'm actually SAVING $100-$125 by doing this AND getting better sound quality!

Now, back to my homework.

Oh man, you're going to get some turbo bass with those phones!

Well, it's nice to know he's taken care of a guy who knows a guy who can hook him up. What a vast and reputable web of commerce Head-Fi can be!

Are you talking to me, Narius?

If so, I won't be getting a laptop for another 2.5-3 years, so I've got some time.

Whoa.... New smilies?

Oh and by the way,
Would you suggest the Turtle Beach Advantage Micro for college just so I can get around using a junky integrated sound card?
Not that I would get it now, but maybe when I go to college, if you guys suggest it.

*edit*
Will this all sound alright coming out of my zen micro?
I know with an ipod a lot of people get the RedWine mod or a turbodock.

So you just use a PA2v2 and the DT 770s?

I was thinking about that. It all sounds fine without a sound card?

I would most likely have only a laptop, probably be around $2000. (I really don't know, but I believe my dad said that for my brother when he asked)

Do you use the DT 770s when you're out of the dorm?
I would think it would be too cumbersome. Probably use the KSC75s.

Agree?

Yep, I usually just use the PA2V2 and 770/80s. I know its nothing amazing compared to higher end setups, but for my needs it works really well. I have an older Turtle Beach soundcard in my desktop (not even sure what model). When I'm listening to music I usually run ZVM(lineout)>>PA2V2>>DT770. I don't live in the dorms anymore, but I do use the 770s outside my house, but usually only when I know I'm going to be in the library or lab the entire day. Glad to see that you have decided on this setup, I think its will work out for you well through college and beyond.

Yay! DT-770s!

Unless you can offer me a laptop at a good price in 3 years, I have no need for your services.

So what's the deal with the question I asked before. Will it be alright going out of a zen micro?

What about the Turtle beach product? By then, there may be a newer one for that price, but in that case, I'll get that one instead.

well these laptop will most likely last for more than 3 years. as for the zen micro thing, the sound pretty good out of my ipod so i would assume that it would be the same for u, but if u do get a pa2v2 (which is quite small) id defintly recommend using it along with the ZM. If ur looking for a good laptop sound card id get the Audigy 2 ZS notebook http://search.ebay.com/search/search...ook&category0=

but i have heard good things about the Turtle beach AAM

I've heard extremely mixed reviews about that PCMCIA card.

Very mixed. And I'm not ready for a laptop yet. If I get it right before college, it will still be considered up to date after four years. If I got it now, not only would it get very little use, but I would end up wanting a new one for college.
