Awesome!

Do you think $175 is a good offer for the headphones?

Will I enjoy these over my other choice of a philips stereo with a subwoofer?
Sound quality will probably be better with this, right?

his price is $165, why offer more? And yes, they will easily defeat your philips stereo.

I liked them for certain songs, fast bass like in power metal it wasnt good for which is the majority of what I listen to. I think Rush sound the best through those cans and Van Halen - Jump and Hot For Teacher gave me goosebumps, but it couldn't handle my metal like the grados

It's tough to get my dad to believe that I would get better sound out of these.
He also knows stuff about headphones.... He bought the HD414s when they came out!

I really like the idea of getting these.
If my offer of $175 on ebay gets rejected, I may come crawling to you, seanohue.

*edit*
I listen to AC/DC, System of a down, red hot chili peppers, blink 182, sum 41, and a bit of punk rock. I'll admit to a bit of Atreyu too

Will I enjoy these a lot?

I just spent 14 hours flying back from New York to Seoul two days ago with my DT770s. To be honest, people looked quite jealous of my Beyers. When the flight attendants come around to ask if u need headsets, just give them a peek of ur DT770s and they go like

I currently have them hooked up to a supermacro V1 and it absolutely rocks. I haven't heard of the PAV2 yet, but the DT770s are quite responsive to amping, so it'll definitely improve the sound abit.

I think the DT770s are great for rock, but in a different way with respect to Grados. Grados seem to have very nimble bass. For instance, u can actually hear the vibration of the individual strings of a guitar. The DT770 portrays this fairly well but not as good as Grados. The thing I love about it is that it's soundstage is a good improvement over say, Alessandro MS2s I've owned prevously. Because of this you can hear where the instruments are coming from. In short, IMO, the DT770 feels like ur in the front row of a concert whereas a Grado would soulnd like you are actually playing the instrument. Or maybe inside the instrument!

My DT770 does very well with most kind of music to be honest. Its bass brings out the cello very well in jazz or classic music.

What's the deal with the 80 ohm version being so hard to find? Yes, I know it's available through ebay, but why not other places? I mean, is beyerdynamic going to distribute new models of the dt770 soon. And if so, would there be an 80 ohm version...

At least in the USA, the 80 Ohm version was only EVER available at Guitar Center, by was of an exclusive agreement. The new DT770 models, which are already available, come in 32, 250, and 600 ohm versions, and for me, the 80 Ohm version is still the best sounding.

YES, and believe me, it is worth every penny, and then some. Makes them into TERRIFIC sounding headphones. Not to mention pretty!

You guys make them sound amazing. My dad seems to be totally against the idea, but I really want this and an amp.

Will my 128-196 kbps mp3s still sound alright?

The next cds i put on will be 320
