How do I downsample a 88.2Ksample/sec, 192 Ksample/sec, or the like  lossless audiio format to the 44.1 Ksample / sec limit apparently imposed by the iPod?

I want to stay in a lossless format such as ALE, rather than go to native iTune AAC format which would convert the sampling rate, but also performs other types of compression.

I'm looking for a way to do it either on a PC, either within iTunes or with separate software.  Thanks!

Foobar 2000 is a good player for that. It will be easy-er than audacity because You can create playlist and then convert it whit just two clicks after first preset set up.
