Douk Audio U2 Pro DDC - Poorman DDC for an affordable & clean digital signal

I have an early version of the Schiit Modi Multibit, that has USB-B input. Would one of these provide an improvement in connectability and sound quality?

yes, absolutely. Any DDC will improve the Mimby over its USB output. I have tested both Schiit Eitr and Douk, and both showed improvement in terms of expansive and holographic soundstage and less treble glare in general. I would recommend the Douk over Eitr though. Less connectivity issues.

So if I get the Douk, what connection to the DAC is recommended?

Depends on what files you play and what your DAC supports, and also your personal preference.

First choice, if your DAC supports, would be I2S. If not an option, both Coax and optical would work equally well. However, if you want to play DSD without downsampling, then Coax, not optical is the way to go.

Awesome - I love it! (This is actually one less box than I’ve got with my phone as source but then mine is car bound for now while it looks like you’re going proper portable!?)

How are you finding it?

Only real problem is pixel 6 pro Usb-c can get finicky so connection drops now and again. Otherwise it's beautiful. I'm rocking the shuoer s12 and I'm loving some really sweet melodies enhanced with the douk while having that great layering and fun fast bass that the s12 handles beautifully.

Slightly better picture. Not pictured : the phone it's connected to.

In the car verdict: like on the iems more melody and separation. NB this is using the 3txco version.

Also NB, this ****er is heavy with a xd-05 bal and a big battery. So maybe don't go running with it.

Might be time to make your own braided cables for size reasons. Making cables can be super fun.

One unshielded pair from the CAT5e ethernet cable is sufficient for a short connection. Braiding or a shield only add smearing.

Use CAT5e UTP infrastructure cable, it will be a solid core, not a multicore (patch) cable. From a good brand you will get a high quality threated copper, but you must check insulation type, PTFE at least. Note that plenum cable type is usually not good, it describes not poisoning gas emitted when burning. The material for the outer jacket is not important, it will be stripped off.
