Does the Shure SRH440's cable fit the iphone 2g's recessed headphone jack

If it is a 3.5mm mini jack input it should, if any smaller size good luck finding an adaptor...

From what I've seen, yes.
The issue isn't the 3.5mm size, it's the shape of the plug. Most bent ones won't fit in the iPhone 2G because, like he said, it's recessed. The Shure SRH440 does seem to have a straight connector, meaning it will work fine.
