Do you read reviews of components you already own?

Yes I do as I often gain new insight as a result of having another person's thoughts on the same product.

Crystal clear! Less is more, many times.

But all too many times you read that the reviewer found this and that good. How good, in relation to what? I then ask my self.

I think most of the people reading review after they got something try to get in touch with other's thoughts

1.to learn more about the subject
2.to learn more about their own use ( in this case listening) habits
3.to learn to read and speak better about their things

I agree with this. I would think that is the only real reason to read a review after you already bought something. If it sounds good to you, why else would you care what someone else thought? I don't see what you can learn from it that you shouldn't already know from listening to it yourself.

edit: I guess I agree with Tradja's reason and curiosity that someone else's view agreed with your own.

Yes I do read. It's always nice to know what other people think of something that I own myself.

I've read reviews of just about every piece of gear I own-audio and otherwise, partly because I'm bored, but I like to know the experiences of other people when using the gear I use as well, and I also do this before making many purchases as well. For example, the Minolta Z1 camera I recently got had to be a good camera to replace the previous POS I had or I wouldn't have bought it. Luckily, a vast majority of reviews I've seen on it were very positive, so it took alot of the risk out of the purchase. After getting it, I too am compelled to review it positively, because it ended up being more camera than I paid for by quite a bit.

I like reading reviews I agree with and hate writing them.

Seriously, I think writing good reviews of audio equipment is difficult. To me, a "good" review is objective, conveys useful info, and provides an accurate sense of how it sounds without using vague, poetic-sounding emotional terms.

I read all reviews of equipment I'm interested in.

The value of a review is dependent on the reader.

I never buy something unless I have been reading reviews and searching around for the lowest price for at least a week. When I read the same review afterwards it's like a completely different review because I understand it more.

Yes I do read reviews of stuf I own.

When it's a headfier that's written the review or impressions, I find it helpful to find out who hears stuff the same way as I do and who doesn't. The impressions of the simular eared people carry more weight with stuff I haven't heard myself.

Me 2.
I have disagreed vehemently w/ a few reviews on stuff I own and that causes me to take future info from that reviewer with a grain of salt.
