Do you prefer "fun" headphones or "reference" headphones?

Reference, as here we are about hifi and the accurate reproduction of sound.

If by "fun" we are talking about "bassy and mids-recessed" then count me in.

When I'm walking in a street and listen to some music that helps me keep my pace I would prefer the music to be sounding 'fun' so that it is engaging and makes me keep my pace.

On the other hand when I get home and want to listen in the solitude of my listening room I want the headphone to be accurate so I can hear and dissect every note - I have the time there to concentrate on those notes.

+1
Well stated.

+1, it does depend on the occasion... but when forced to choose I'll take the reference type headphone.

If only all music was listenable on it

Slightly bass-light for me.

What is the definition of "fun"...

I preferr headphones that sound real and disappear on my head. Not headphoney headphones I suppose

Reference...
As in uncolored, natural, clean, open.

Fun HP's are great. My M50's are fun, but they can't be 'reference'. However 'reference' HP's can be fun. Just apply a little EQ.

Usually reference. That being said, my reference amp is broken leaving me with a fun though not as detailed and more mushy bassy amp now......and i am enjoying it actually. So both are good for there own self. Reference stuff does seem to clean things up though and every time i go to reference stuff I do end up preferring it.

I'd say the SA5000.. Speed. Detail. Clarity.
