Do you prefer "fun" headphones or "reference" headphones?

Fun/musical for me.

I don't want to listen to music like I'm an engineer in a studio listening for technical aspects in the recording. I'd rather hear music in a way that can get me emotionally moreso than technically.

Fun. I'm a bit of a basshead and listen mostly to trance. Ultrasones and Denons do the trick. Though I would like to try an AKG K701 sometime in the future.

I prefer flat response. I like to hear the music's characteristics, not the headphones'. Perhaps you should add a poll?

Yes a poll...and change "fun" to musical and "reference" to analytical.

Actually, I happen to consider a revealing, "reference" headphone to be fun.

Precisely.

The truly ironic thing is that the majority of "fun" headphones get boring with time.

X1 The fun headphones are the reference headphones.

"fun" or "reference"?

Why not have both? Double the fun and joy!

Reference headphones were designed to be just that, reference hadphones. It is up to you to make them sound fun and have fun whilst listening to them.

No. These are crap terms that shouldn't be used.

Fun and reference are fine, "musical" and "analytical" are not - because even reference cans are musical (although I think reference cans are also fun).

Deficient and Proficient would be my preferred terms, but whatever.

RE: OP. "reference" cans are my "fun" cans

It depends what I am listening to. Fun for rock and pop and neutral for jazz and classical.
