Do DACs matter?

The pegasus would look stellar next to my Burson Soloist 3X ;D

I am going to order the pegasus and A/B it to my topping d70s(considering the d90se shouldn't be far off from the d70s)

Just make sure you get it from reputable source. I don’t think it’s an existing issue but earliest units had some quality control problems. Denafrips seems to have better reputation as far as QC is concerned.

I'm searching for a Good DAC for My HD600
My setup also include SS Headphone Ampli Lake People G103 or G109
Some time ago I had taken a look at the Topping d50 (not S series)
The model has two converters Chip Sabre ES9038Q2M and No Balanced Output
SNR 122 (It's very quiet) and THD 0.0004% (very low harmonic distortion)
I was tempted but many users say it's not a musical DAC,with an analytical sound
I don't know If it fits perfectly with HD600..
I'm searching for a DAC with a certain musicality that Could Fit perfectly with the carachter of HD600
Thanks
Since you're new into this I would go for something not too expensive to begin with.
Try some cheap(er) DACs until you have a feeling what you prefer/like and direction you want to go in.

No use in splurging 1000+ on a DAC if you have no idea yet what you actually like IMHO

I agree 100% with @Telin . You don't know whether you like R2R sound at all, it is very personal. To verify, you need to spend no more that $50, try a Nobsound 8xTDA1387. See this thread. A built-in HPA is an average quality (and definitely not powerful enough for HD600, but you own already a better amp). I still prefer this amp against FiiO E12A (when driving my HD 4.50 BTNC) that brings a lot digital flare to the R2R type of sound coming out of a Nobsound. It is portable, if you don't like it on your desk, it can be plugged to any phone with OTG facility, as it doesn't draw a lot of power, no phone will complain.

If you don't like it, Telin actually owns very well sounding implementation of ESS chip. :)

Hi Guys, I need Your Help
I've an ALL IN ONE Ampli+Dac by FX-AUDIO
The model is FX-AUDIO X6MKII
Taking a look at the specs I've found this:

No chance to find The Output impedence of The Amplifier,I've find This

Output Power 940 mW @ 16 Ohms, 900 mW @ 32 Ohms, 700 mW @ 64 Ohms, 450 mW @ 120 Ohms, 200 mW @ 300 Ohms.

My question is: Is this Amplifier capable to drive HD600 safely?

I'm using this calculator

Power Needed

Safe 85 db 0.07 mW
Moderate 100 db 1.98 mW
Fairly Loud 110 db 20.01 mW
Very Loud 115 db 63.08 mW
Painful 120 db 199.69 mW

If I f I have correctly interpreted the numbers, to manage the Peak of Volume, I need 199.69 mw
My amp is able to manage 200mw at 300 ohm
Is it correct?

Thanks

Safely as in: will it hurt these cans? Or will it have them loud effortlessly and with proper authority?

I’m trying to figure out if I can keep my amp or not:slight_smile:

Our ZEN CAN outputs 1000mW into 16 Ohms and handles these Senns nicely, so your device rated very similarly into the same load should also work well. At least that's what specs tell us :)

Sorry,I can't do this test because I haven’t bought headphones yet.

To answer your question in a previous post, yes, calculation is right. HD600 definitely benefit from a strong amp. It is not about how loud music is playing, but how the amp is able to deliver a power. 200mW amp should be sufficient, my amp in R2R-11 gives 300mW, not a big difference.

I can't judge for a quality. It use HP chip TPA6120 with a good reputation, but not a top performing solution when comparing with a latest nested loopback architecture (which use of the same chip as a base, BTW) like Topping L30. What these latest solution achieve is mostly in driving low impedance HP's, as TPA6120 itself can be unstable with IEMs. No problems with headphones above 20 Ohms.

As for a question whether keep it or not, it depends. If you want to stay with Delta-Sigma implementations, it should be sufficient. If you like R2R sound, such amplification is insufficient, better go with class A discrete amps like this.
