Hello,
Can you guys help me find out the best step by step, with pictures guidance on how to diyMOD an iPod 5th Gen? The "56 k killer" thread is so convoluted or impossible to follow.
I can't find the specific step by step guide for the 5th gen iPod.

What I have found online is this but it seems not clear on where the wires should be soldered or connected.

This site is already down - http://cogent14.com/~ayl/index.php/projects/diy-imod-ipod/
This one does not have any complete pictures - http://www.head-fi.org/t/269604/the-apple-diymod-my-take-on-the-famous-imod-56k-killer-featuring-3g-4g-5g-and-nano-1g/825#post_3743215

Please help!

Look at http://www.ualberta.ca/~jple/diyMod/guides/models/ipod5g.html
Steps:
1) Remove the 2 larger and 2 smaller capacitors in photos 1 & 2
2) Run a wire following the green and blue lines in photos 1 & 2
3) Close it up, you're done.

After this mod, you will need to put coupling caps in your LOD or have a separate iPod LOD "capacitor box".

Here is a photo of my diyMod 5th Gen, hope it's clear enough what needs to be connected where.

Thank you very much.
Do you have a guide on how to make a iPod LOD capacitor box?

There should be guides for building an LOD in the main thread; it's simply a matter of connecting a capacitor between the output of the iPod and the input of the amp along the Left/Right channels.

Thanks FallenAngel. Let's say I want to put the BlackGate capacitors inside my iPod. Is this how they will be placed? My black gates are non-polarized. I did a quick and dirty paintbrush to show what I am trying to say. I might have to reroute the wires to the back of the ipod.

My apologies for this might be a dumb question. I just don't get it based from the instructions and questions. Some of the pictures on the threads are already gone too.

By JDSLabs amp, are you talking about a CMOY? If yes, try using a normal dock without caps with your diyMod running to the CMOY since it already has input caps.

Otherwise, not really sure what to tell you. If you can't tell the difference at all, and the mod was done properly, save yourself the money and sell the diyMod. :)

Yeah, I am pretty sure and confident that I followed the instructions and the mod was done properly. Yes, I am using the JDSLabs cMoy. I think this is just a hype. Waste of money. It was fun to mod though.

I wouldn't go as far as pure hype and a waste of money, the DAC in the iPod Video is pretty nice, and replacing the signal coupling caps with something of high quality makes it sound pretty good.

I guess maybe you are right. Probably my setup is not that revealing (poorman's setup). I am seeing some coupling caps like Elna Silmic II, is that a good capacitor compared to Blackgate? I tried to use the search function on head-fi and also can't find any threads comparing 0.47uf caps.
