Imma wait a few years until the price drop. I’m still enjoying my MK1 Directstream.

Do they actually price drop? I feel like MK1 has been that price since the beginning and has kept it's second hand value pretty high until recently with MK2 coming out. You can trade in your MK1 for a decent credit right now.

Has anyone purchased the MK2 yet?

Yes. Have not hooked it up to my PS Audio system yet(MK2, P12, PerfectWave SACD transport, BHK sig Pre-amp) so cannot give any comparison to the DS DAC.

For reference there’s been further improvement to the Directstream dac Mk1. The VOCM mod is important as is the APS nickel transformer upgrade. These two upgrades run around $1000US but they supposedly take the Mk1 DS to the next level. The DS Mk2 is supposed to be nice but the fully modded DS Mk1 is no slouch. I was happy with the Edcor XS4400 but I expect much improvement with the APS nickel transformers that the team at Jkrichards offers.

Not much love for the Directstream dacs on headfi but they are nice dacs in audio land. You can get a second hand Directstream dac Mk1 for around $2500 and that is a good dac. A nice step up without spending a lot for the Mk2. The Mk1 can be modded to take it a step up in sound quality.

It’s been 4 years since my first purchase of my Directstream dac Mk1 and it’s still going strong with the mods done to it over the years. I will keep my Directstream Mk1 as it is for now. It does sound good.
