I am looking to hook up a CD player with the standard coax & optical digital outs to another digital device that has only XLR for digital inputs (as well as some analog inputs which I will not be using).

Does such a cable exist or would it require a custom job? If so, is this a hassle to make? Has anyone done it themselves?

I don't think a simple cable would do it.
You would need something like this to do the conversion.

What was the product that will convert xlr to digital coax?
Cheers

These are the answer: http://www.neutrik.com/en/accessories/aes-ebu-impedance-transformers/

You only need to find the particular one you need (ie: plug and socket polarity) and search for the model number on Amazon or similar.
