Did Sennheiser just reveal the Orpheus successor?

If Sennheiser were to come out with a new version of the HE-60, that with an adapter could be used with any stats amp, then it's definitely something I'd consider getting, I'd prefer a new version of the HE-90, but an HE-60 would probably be more affordable.

At what price though? Since the HD800 seems to be in demand even with its $1600 price, if a new headphone is released too close to this price it is likely to cannibalize HD800 sales, unless perhaps they decide to decrease the HD800 price quite a bit, so that a new headphone could be released at under the $2000 price point. I'm surprised the HD800 is as popular as it is. There doesn't seem to be much mention of the HD700 on head-fi. Why is that? The HD600 and HD800 seem popular though.

People seem to think the HD700 isn't nearly as good a value for its cost as the other two.  Not sure exactly why, you better ask someone who has owned it I suppose, or one of the people who are going around saying so about it.

Anyway I doubt that even a "baby orpheus" (HE60) successor would possibly be priced for under $2000 in this day and age, especially if the rumors about the price of the Orpheus 2 (over FOURTY-GRAND!) are true.  Bare minimum, an HE60 would probably be at least  5000 dollars, so it wouldn't be a competitor in the price-range of the HD800, but rather for things like the STAX SR-009 or the Abyss 1266.

the 40000$ is for the complete stack (amp + headphone).
I don't know the price for them separately though

The headphone alone is $16,000. But it's not sold separately.

mmm.....the HD 700 is actually a good headphone. HD 800 Lite, without the pricetag but there are enough differences to make the HD 700 complementary to the HD 800. I like the 700 but not enough to buy it.

"Like the 700, but not enough to buy it" seems to be the main problem people have with the HD700, is kind of what I was getting-at before :p

Obviously price would play a big part, but I'd also have to like the look of it, which is why I'd never buy an HD-800 or 700 because I don't like look of them, however I do have an HD-600 which looks similar to the HE-60.

For something which is just going to stay at home as a non-portable setup, I really couldn't care less about the appearance :p

Well I suggest you get the Abyss then.
