The Hugo 2 can brilliantly play the Diana V2 IMO.
certainly a good combo but the H2 doesnt do them justice IMHO...the Diana phi needs almost as much power as does the TC

I'm not sure about the Phi as I've only heard them on full sized desktop setups. But the Diana V2 and Hugo 2 is exceedingly good.

IMHO the stelia is a better match for the H2 without an amp due to its efficiency...that said I think the diana Phi is the better HP but needs more power

From the Abyss website:

Diana Phi:
  • Impedance 32 ohms
  • Sensitivity 91 dB/mw
Diana V2:
  • Impedance 42 ohms
  • Sensitivity 91 dB/mw
They are a lot closer than I thought. Not sure why the Hugo 2 struggles with the Phi’s based on this.

I can't comment on the Phi (as I haven't heard it paired with the Hugo2), but to my ears, the Hugo 2 is very good with the Diana V2. It (Hugo 2) outputs about 740mW into them and that would play them at just under 120dB.

like all discussions of amps and power needs it is misleading....the dave can drive the TC to deafening levels but to me the TC needs the formula s or another high end amp...same holds in the case of the h2 and diana phi to me...let me stress to me...

Gotcha...I thought you were referring to a power point of view. Then it might be synergy? I can get the TC to play loud (not deafening) with the DAVE, and I do agree they need extra power to better hit their stride. I don't find it is needed with the Diana V2. But like I said, I haven't tried the Diana Phi with the Hugo 2, so I can't comment on that pairing.

Pretty much like the he1000
Some say the hifiman are good with the h2.. But they are way far from how they can sound..

Can you define something "better"? Just curious what your preferences are? I actually think they are an excellent pairing. Better than any desktop DAC I've heard/reviewed in this price range. I wouldn't recommend the H2 to power the Phi TC or other power hungry headphones (like the Susvara), but I really liked the combination with the headphones you mentioned.

I too think the h2 does a nice job with the he-1000 series particularly the SE which is very easy to drive

I liked drive them with more power
They became much faster with better separation and tighter bass
The specification of he1000 and Diana are very similar..

You do realize more power will play them both beyond 120dB? I think you are looking at a different flavour (or rather more flavour) for your party tastes?
