One of the more obvious comparisons would be the HD 820 I imagine.

I’ve never heard one but, at least here in NZ, it would cost almost double what the 9200 cost me and certainly from comments here and in reviews it’s very far from perfect.

There’s certainly little I could buy in NZ for the equivalent of US$1200 that seriously beats the 9200 as an all rounder. I’ve had Sennheiser 600 and 660 and prefer the 9200. However of course my ears and hearing are mine, not anyone else’s!

109 Pro is about the only thing I can think of but that’s planar so not directly comparable and works better with more amplification than my A&K SP3000 I suspect.

109 pro is not a planar.
It’s dynamic driver headphone

Yes, it's absolutely true :relieved: I dislike Brutal death variant

Regarding 9200s, I remember I listened this Norah Jones performance with the 9200s and the only thing I could enjoy was the bass notes, with the HD 800 I feel like I'm there with Norah, I feel it so real...

Although I'm not a fan of Norah Jones I do enjoy a lot of female singer songwriters. Albums from Joni Mitchell, Sarah Mclachlan, Natile Merchant, Ruth Moody or the tight harmonies of the Wailin' Jennys or The Staves really do show off the 9200s to good effect. There are two albums that I always use for auditions, both stereo SACD, Carly Simon's Anticipation and especially Jennifer Warnes' Another Time, Another Place.

On the Jennifer Warnes album track two, Tomorrow Night open with a plucked double bass. You can hear the strings vibrate and Warnes' voice is warm and clear coming from a central position with the double bass slightly to her right. At 1.06 there are light cymbal strikes and percussion. The imaging places the drums just left of centre. 1.47 a Hammond organ comes into play from the left. Imaging is superb, it's a cliche but you can shut your eyes and your in an intimate jazz club and your tables in the perfect position. The 9200 excels.

No doubt the 9200s are helped by these superb recordings which have very good dynamic readings. Something like heavy metal which often has a dynamic range that is flatter than hammered s*** sounds extremely poor on the Denons as do a lot of recordings that are victims of the loudness wars. So perhaps the exact opposite of what you are hearing with them.

Ultimate Denon Headphone Battle: AH-D7200 vs AH-D9200 vs AH-D5200

I too liked your video review, I found it to be quite informative, while also taking other headphones into consideration, all be it higher price ranges. I think you went over all the details of these three can's, to explain their feature sets and performance, quite well. At no time was I left wondering anything, as you even went over the cable types! I also found your review much more palatable to take in, then the Zeo's guy, who acts like he's on drugs, and has to anime-fi everything up to level 10. I appreciate your post, have a great day!

Ultimate Denon Headphone Battle: AH-D7200 vs AH-D9200 vs AH-D5200

Interesting review, short and to the point. I'm not a person that goes into the nitty gritty of peaks, so if I like how a pair sounds to me then it's a keeper. I was interested to hear the comparison to the Focal Celestee though. I was already a Focal Clear MG owner and had the Radiance at home for about ten days to compare and complement the 9200s. I didn't like them at all though they came nowhere near the 9200s for me to keep them and they were returned.

I’m not sure about his take that many would prefer the Celestee to the D9200…particularly as there’s plenty who would think D9200 > Stellia

Cool video overall though

People also recommend d7200 over d9200 while he said d7200 is not competitive at 1k$ and its muddy sounding
D7200 lacks a bit of bite in upper frequencies compared to D9200. In it's stock form D7200 is more of vintage sound with more impactful mid-bass, but with slight boost of EQ you can get D7200 fairly close to D9200. Muddy resembles to me as something sounding like warm poop as in-ear apple airpods pro/nighthawks & beats come to my mind. D7200 is not like that.

Folks seeking a top tier sound in closed back can aim D9200 as it is better than D7200, but D7200 is no slouch. For long term listening I've enjoyed D7200 more.

I have audeze Mobius and d7200, audeze mobius is way too transparent sounding than d7200
