I am also interested in opinions, because I am standing before the same decision. I was also thinking of getting the A90, but I am curious if there is a better solution.
I don't think you would dislike the A90 since it just amplifies without changing anything and does a great job. If I try something that adds something special to the sound I'll post about it. Was sort of wondering how they would do with the liquid platinum since you can switch tubes and mess with the sound but still have solid state power.

I started using headphones a bit more seriously since 1,5 year. Always use DAPs (Sony WM1A en WM1Z). Paired with a share E849 or the Sennheiser HD800s. I have always wanted a good closed pair of headphones as well. I have ordered these Denons. Can try them out, will be a bit different from my Sennheiser, but looking forward to try them :)

Hope you like them. :beerchug:

Definitely different than HD800s...but very nice for closed cans!

Did anyone try the cups from the D5200 or D7200 with the D9200? Do you notice any difference between the bamboo wood and something else?
The choice of bamboo cups IMHO is fully justified on the sound difference vs walnut used in the D7200. Tried a lot of woods myself, too, I liked bamboo and urushi the most. Both used in flagships. Cedar also has potential. I didn't like heavy, dense woods: less musical sounding, or more anemic - they are not bad, but more like compensating issues rather than improving sound per se.

The "burn-in" period is about 2 years for the wood to settle, at least in my climate (dry, temperate). IMHO most differences between samples are mostly due to the variations in the foam dampers around the drivers and variations in ear pads manufacturing.

I use bigger earpads with the D9200 (Stax 009, directly glue-padded on chassis), so I don't care about the cup size. Bass extension is the same (and more linear, with less issues) than with the bigger TH900. Bigger cups not always provide better sound, only if they can solve the problems brought along with the bigger volume.

Headband is not so great. Improvement needed.

Driver quality is probably the best available today with bio-cellulose membranes, even though I'd prefer a better, and little more shelved down treble. Coating might help.
I don't think metallic diaphragms would necessarily be better, just different. Foam diaphragms (like in the Technics A800), or sandwiches might be surprisingly good, but different house sound.

Denon already went quite deep in optimizing the driver loading with the housing/cups/damper/ports/internal damping, that might still be marginally improvable, but improvements that would make most sense to me are all related to foams: ear pads, dampers, head band -- and to some extent the driver (coating).
There was a bit of discussion about how cups affect the sound earlier. Now I have a bit more experience with different cups, my thoughts align with @zolkis. I find the bamboo sounds lighter and more refined.

I have mine up for sale. I find the mids too forward for my taste. Can sound "muddy" in some songs, IMO. I only have a few hours on them, but the TH-600 and the AT WP900 that I currently own sounded good to me from the first listen.
Outch that's a steep price... Usually on forums, these, in mint condition are less than 1k€ in Europe.

Ime, it's best to pair the D9200 with a slightly warmer dac/amp, bc it was a bit too forward for me as well.
Mojo is great, R28 also, BTR5 was a bit "hot" but great for low level listening.

That's what I can say with my somewhat "limited experience".

One of the yokes on my 9200s is getting a bit loose. A complete replacement headband is pretty expensive, so I'm thinking of getting a set of D5200s to cannibalise for parts.
If I do this, I wondered if anybody would be interested in any other parts, and how much you would be willing to pay?

Still love the sound of these headphones, just wish Denon could make an earpapad that has a slightly larger opening since my ears touch the pad walls and always get uncomfortable after 1 hour. I see that some like the Stax mod for pads. Anyone tried any other pads with success recently?

Hi!
Did you consider opening an entry in the classifieds section? You might get more attention there…

I don't believe he has enough comments to post in classifieds yet.

I'm not an active forum member unfortunately, I registered here for a while because I was interested in these high-end headphones. My main interest is Home Theater 👍

Sorry guys!
I've given up on selling this beast.
If you have a very good cabriolet car, you can spend a few great days a year with it, but it's worth it.
Why shouldn't the Denon 9200 live with me any longer
