RandyChicago,
Did you let the HD650 burn-in for a good bit? I love mine and I love my D-7000's also...my HD650's got better with burn-in and use...they are a great sounding 'phone.
I have noticed if you don't use a headphone or speaker system for a while you need to let it play for a good hour or so to mellow out and readjust...smooth out. I don't know the science behind it but it is for real..in my system(s) at least

I tried the Grado RS-1s & 325is, plus the Senn HD650s, and returned all of them, I was hoping the AH-D7000s would be the right ones for me, but I may never get to hear them! I'm starting to think I'd appreciate the $600 in my pocket more for now, but since I bought the RSA Predator, I'd like some amazing cans to appreciate it with!

Wait for the D7000's to ship, unless you can get them used (that's what I did). These are simply amazing cans and well worth it.

x2 on the wait. I waited 9 weeks to get mine from J&R at the $549 shipped price in Feb. Very happy I waited. Great cans at that price...and from an authorized dealer.

I spoke to J&R rep the other day and I was told they would get a supply on the 22nd. They said they would also ship on the 22nd as soon as they get them. I hope they have enough for all the preorders.

I called yesterday and got a similar response. "Getting an order early next week." He also said they were expecting an order on June 1, but it never arrived.... which worries me.

Edit: Oh, by the way, he said there were 16 people in the back order queue.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. All I know is that I'm going to the NJ meet on July 25th where I hope to be able to give the Sennheiser HD-800's a good audition. If I really like the 800's and I have yet to receive the Denon AH-D7000's I'll cancel my Denon order and get a set of the 800's instead.

If I have already received the Denon's I'm likely to hang onto them as my Reference Closed Cans even if the 800's blow me away. I'm seeing my collection having 4 different sets of headphones.

1) Electrostatic - HeAudio Jades (Have)
2) Dynamic Closed - Denon AH-D7000 (On Order)
3) IEM - Westone 3 (Have)
4) Dynamic Open - AKG K701 (Have) Possibly to be replaced by Sennheiser HD-800's if they live up to the hype.

I called today. They said that they still weren't in stock, however, they told me the last inquiry made about the D7000, on the 17th of June, indicated they would have them in stock in 1 week. Hopefully there was/is some truth to that statement.

I called them today and they didn't have them in stock yet. I was really disappointed. I wanted to cancel my order but the rep said I should check again in the middle of the week or at the end of the week. He said they should have them very soon. That's what it said on his inquiry.

I may be interested in selling my D7000's to established headfi'rs for the JR price

And what about a newbie Head-fier but at the same time well established Audiogonner and eBayer?

Yeah, once you get those HD800s there's really no point hanging onto the Denon is there?

I've given up on my over two weeks of modding to the D5000 just because no matter how much modding you do they will never even come close to the HD800. The Fostex driver is technically inferior to the transducer in the 800s.

I'm not saying the D5000 or D7000s are bad headphones, not at all. And you wouldn't expect them to equal the quality of a headphone 3 to 5 times the price either. But since you were obviously able to afford the Senns, might as well sell the D7000 if they don't get much listening time.
