Did you let the HD650 burn-in for a good bit? I love mine and I love my D-7000's also...my HD650's got better with burn-in and use...they are a great sounding 'phone.
I have noticed if you don't use a headphone or speaker system for a while you need to let it play for a good hour or so to mellow out and readjust...smooth out. I don't know the science behind it but it is for real..in my system(s) at least
