I have a feeling it has a lot to do with the hip dac 2. Darker sounding dac..
Hi Nick, I pulled the trigger on the Denon 7200 a month ago and i can't go back to the DT-1770. The Denon's ruined my old 'fun' headphone, at first when i got them i was disappointed with the Denon 7200 as it didn't have that much thump like the DT 1770 but the quality is insane (god-like)! I guess i had to get used to their sound. Going back to the DT-1770 it just sound like a bad subwoofer very boomy, what a disappointment! I really thought the DT-1770 could hold on their own. The sound of the Denon's is very open for a closed back, compared to the DT-1770 that is playing sound in your head. Man i can't believe i liked that sound listening back to my DT-1770 pro.Hi Apski, I've both, 1st I bought the DT 1770 then the 7200. I do confirm it has way more bass ! The only thing is that the 7200 has very low medium.
I tried them, and thought they sounded a little tinny. What did you think?Apparently Denon has a new woodie coming up... It will be released at the end of 2016.
It will be available in December and cost GBP 599 (about USD 860).
There is a 50mm Denon Free Edge Driver within the new headphones to enable pure piston motion for what the company says will deliver superior sound, and the wood is also said to enhance the sound quality.
Additionally, the AH-D7200s feature three dimensional-cut artificial leather ear-pads, a 7N purity cable and a 3.5mm detachable cable system. There is an Apple remote and microphone cable included and a cable jack floating system to stop cable vibration noise is also on board.

I don't think I've ever heard someone describe the AH-D7200 as "tinny." To my ear they were anything but; warm to the point of being dark.I tried them, and thought they sounded a little tinny. What did you think?
Can’t say i agree with that statement at all. Possibly the least tinny headphones i have ever heard.I tried them, and thought they sounded a little tinny. What did you think?
We must have vastly different ears, because I would never describe the 7200 as bright. Warm, yes, but not bright.ok so comparing d7200 against dt990 pro 250 ohm the 7200 do everything dt990 do but more clear and produces finer details Absolutely d7200 not dark it's bright and warm at the same time, Since I got it I stopped listening to dt990
Completely agree. If anything I would say its very calm in that region where some headphones are bright. We must have vastly different ears, because I would never describe the 7200 as bright. Warm, yes, but not bright.
OK what do you classify DT990 ? bright or dark?We must have vastly different ears, because I would never describe the 7200 as bright. Warm, yes, but not bright.
I feel like you got a dud 7200. Might wanna exchange if yo still have the receiptsOK what do you classify DT990 ? bright or dark?
Definitely bright right? ok so 7200 has the same brightness as DT990
I'm not saying 100% percent bright no, it's like 50% bright and 50% warm, but not bright in a bad way no it's bright in a good way and this help to produce fine details and clear music
