It seems that the new Denon teams up with Kimber to provide expensive upgrade cables.
I personally would love the fun, visceral signature of the old 5000/7000 series, but with a bit more mid-bass presence (for that 808 kickdrum) and less strident upper-mids and highs. That and less sound leakage. I wouldn't mind slight loss of soundstage width if they could make it a fully closed design. Also hoping for a driver design that scales well both upwards (with better amping) and downwards (more forgiving with 'ghetto' quality SoundCloud mixes). Give me all that, and Denon shall have my money, whatever they charge. Not holding my breath though. Every recent flagship headphone has disappointed me in some way, especially when they have such glaring faults compared to some mid-price headphones. They're all either too boring (neutrality is overrated), too sparkly bright (like you're listening to a tweeter) or too unforgiving (audiophiles like to pretend they're mastering engineers). Make a flaghship for my peasant tastes for once, headphone manufacturers!! The rich dudes in Hawaiian shirts with their ultra-res files and plutocrat money DACs already have enough flagships for their tastes.
is there any new info on d7200?
In todays headphone world anything under $1000 for a company flagship headphone seams pretty cheap. If it's a legit competitor to the Fostex th-900 mk2 it could definitely turn some heads and its not much more than the current Denon AH-D7100.
looks like the work of http://sabotage.london beautiful headphone.
I'm super excited and anticipating the release of these cans as well. Though, admittedly, the admission ticket to the TH-900's on Amazon right now might dissuade me... I wish there were better impressions and more information of what we can expect.
