Here's a little more info and a couple more pics.

I really like that these use flush-mounted 3.5mm jacks for the earcups instead of the ugly protruding jacks used on the TH-610/TH-900 2G.

I agree so it's possible to do it. Fostex is just lazy.

I think they look pretty much finished except for maybe the so-so stitching on the headband.

But I'm sure that will be addressed by the time they go into production.

I wonder how Denon will be able to justify the nearly $900 asking price. It seems a bit steep in my opinion, especially compared to the TH-X00. I guess we will have to wait and see how they sound.

Well D7000 were like $1500 on release.

If you compare the EMU teak (tuned D5k) it sounds way better than the ThX00. So with with enough tuning and tight quality control it could be well worth the extra money.

The D7100 also had a really steep asking price IIRC. I think like over $1k, but we see how quickly that tanked.

Based on their last attempt, I wouldn't hold my breath. Although there were plenty of fanboys.

Agreed on this but I'm hoping they learned from that debacle.  Tho I liked the D600 and 7100 I didn't love them like the Foster-built early models.

The new Denon AH-D7200 look really nice and remind me of their older D7000 headphones.

For reference, here is their old AH-D5000 headphones. I have these.

Here is their AH-D7000 headphones

And here is their current AH-D7100 headphones. When I saw this unit, I was really disappointed by how ugly they are. I later found out Denon had severed ties with Fostex, who had largely designed the previous D5000 and D7000.

And here is the new AH-D7200. Again, they look really nice. Photo from: https://andreweverard.com/2016/06/09/denon-and-marantz-poised-to-launch-a-huge-range-of-new-products/

Denon wanted to move away from Fostex designing their headphones. They did a decent job with the D600/D7100, though there were a lot of areas that needed improving, namely the huge headband needing only one or two notches for larger heads, large and stiff frame being labeled "portable", and lack of air from the sound signature. The headband and large and stiff frame were improved and some air was added to the sound in the MM400, though there were other smaller issues that others did not like, like the shallow ear pads for larger ears.

The D7200 look like something many expected the D7100 to look. The gimbal design looks more sturdy than the gimbals that Fostex slightly improved...and are those mini-XLR connectors on the ear cups? Let's see how they sound.

I like my D600's but I definitely agree on the headband.  I have a big head and I feel like I'm swimming in them at the "smallest" setting.  I had D2000's that just got really old and beat up prior to getting the D600's, but I really don't have many complaints about the sound signature of the D600, although I don't consider it an upgrade from the D2000's in that regard, it is a more comfortable set though.  Hope the D7200 can be just as comfortable while actually improving the sound.

The D600 is a fun headphone to listen to. It's also the most comfortable headphone I've ever owned. I went through a lot of headphones in search of a closed headphone I could wear all day at work that sounds good. I'm looking forward to see what Denon can do with the updated models.
