Hi, I can buy this headphones for about 300€, I m a grado lover but often I need a closed back headphones, the only I use at the moment is a hyperx cloud orbit (audeze mobius rebranding) but they are too uncomfortable. Do you recommend these denon?

Depends what you are after. If you are after analytical sound, very balanced and neutral then these are not for you.
If you are about non fatiguing sound with fantastic bass texture and very good timbre then these definitely yes.
For some these might sound a bit dark, that's why I use eq.

They can scale amazingly in terms of sound quality using the right tools: good amp, custom cable, EQ.
Then you have completely different set of headphones few levels higher.

Got these new replacement earpads for the d7200.

They're a little thicker than stock but thinner than the earpads I was using.

Immediately, the bass is noticeably reduced but still bassy. These make the sound less warm, stage has increased quite a bit and makes it sound like an open back. The tonality change a little as well, sounds closer to the d9200 now.

What pads are that? So do you think that the 9200 isn't worth the price difference? I have a 5200 and I'm evaluating ro return it cause I ve found a 7200 second hand that i can buy only for 30€ more. Anyway I ve read on Reddit that some people prefer the 5200 over the 7200

Someone recommended them in the deals discussion thread.

I opted for the sheepskin round opening.

I think the d9200s are one of the best sounding headphones available, top 5 imo. But it is expensive, so I think the d7200 represents a better value.

I have not heard the d5200 but a friend has them and said that its not comparable. If they prefer the d5200, its their taste, they probably like neutral vs W shape tuning.

If I compare the d9200 to d7200, I'd say that the d9200 is superior in the treble, more open, airy, sparkly, the tonality is better as well, not as bassy as the d7200 but not bad by any means.

Quality wise D9200 already surpass the bass of D7200. It's tighter and slightly better extended, but D7200 bass sounds bigger yet still manages not to overshwadow mids.

Enjoyment wise D7200 is the top pick for me and has the most head time. Never gets tiring and still very detailed headset which can be tuned to a reference sound if needed.
If you have both try swapping the stock 9200 pads onto the 7200 and see what you think.

Unfortunately I've sold D9200. No tweaks on D7200 apart slight EQ boost on treble when I'm in the mood for that, but lately enjoying D7200 in it's stock form most of the time. I would like softer pads for D7200 though, just worried it may change sound signature too much

Using stocks pads on my denon 7200 but the pads seem so thin compared to brainwavz sheepskin pads that i used on my denon 6000 , but the denon 7200 sounds amazing with stock pads paired with IFI black label dac amp with xbass switched on its a nice match .

My new combination, the two complement each other perfectly.

Fantastic that must make a wonderful combination! The Kann Max and the 7200. That must be really good!
I now regularly use the Astell Sr25 which is a lot less powerful + Topping nx7 portable amp + 7200. That is also an excellent combination. I like the Astell tuning with the 7200. I also use at home the SR25+ Topping L30II desktop amp + 7200 even better.

A few days ago I had the opportunity to compare my approx 3 year old D7200 with a new one (09/2023). Old dark engraving, new light engraving. The new one has slightly less bass, but is more precise with more structure. The treble has also been slightly increased, so it tends to be a little more neutral and tuned towards the D9200, which I personally like better. The pads are identical, my old ones are not worn out as I don't use them that often, I usually listen with open phones.

I confirm this, I have the same experience. It looks like 1-2 years back they have replaced the driver for the better one, more resolving. I have not heard any decreased bass but the mids and highs are significant improvement together with their detail retrieval. As soon as I got the new pair I had to reset my EQ settings.
