Yes, the benefits from power cords are the same as from other changes that reduce EMI/RFI:

  • More presence to voices and instruments which sound more forward and distinct in presentation
  • Richer tonality
  • Less grain to the sound
  • Better resolution due to a lower noise floor (This is audible when comparing a cleaner signal to one that is less clean)
  • Easier to follow bass lines
  • Pace seems faster due to more clarity and better definition to the leading edge of notes.
I believe a Good regulated power supply will have more of an impact on sound quality. But on less expensive pieces a better quality power cord that address EMI/RFI can be an asset. So in the end spend your cash on equipment then worry about the wires.

Thank you, would a large gauge cable have benefit on the DAC like it would on an amp ?
My understanding is that a larger gauge cable that allows for more current delivery is of less benefit for DACs than it is for amps. Power cords intended for amplifiers seem to be focused on high current delivery capability while those designed for DACs, preamps, phono amps and other source components seem to focus more on noise reduction.

That's a spot on :L3000:

Less noise = more music in general.

Ive been using the Pangea Audio Ac 14 XL Mk II power cord for my Pontus 2, my Iris DDC and My schiit Lyr 3 hybrid tube amp.

I get a small pop when listening every now and then. Nothing crazy but enough to notice. I have these hooked to my imac running roon up-sampling to dsd256 before the DAC. Nothing I do eliminates the small pop that happens during playback periodically...im curious if these Pangea power cords have something to do with it......Any one familiar with this phenomenon? I've also read that it could be the up-sampling to dsd causing this..... Thank you for any help and time.

Sounds like that popping sound comes from the tube.

I'm in 99,9999% sure they don't :)

It is possible, but is your music upsampled to DSD before it gets into your DAC?
Yes I do upsample the music before the Dac.

I see IFI has released power cables of their own, the Nova and SuperNova. May i know what gauge conductors are actually used in those power cables ? Pretty well priced for the Nova considering it's using Ohno OHFC Continous Cast copper ! Is the power plug contacts of the same material as well ?

Yes I do upsample the music before the Dac.

I'd turn upsampling off and track any changes, and if that doesn't make any difference I'd check tubes if possible.

Thanks! I'd have to ask internally about the total conductive gauge, and plug contacts are gold-plated copper.

I know it is Denafrips appreciation thread, but Pontus do not kill Audio GD R-8 in the same price range, neither in features (not questioned NOS, USB isolator, superb quality active output stage, ACSS, more sound preference options) nor a performance, as it fully takes an advantage of USB asynchronous transfers over a galvanic bi-directional isolator, no reclocking when not needed).

Every measurement I have seen about GD audio stuff basically said their stuff sucks ass..

I do get pops sometimes when switching tracks as well. No tubes in my system. I haven't paid attention to see what is occurring when it happens, I.e., switching from a CD quality file to a high res file.

Wrong thread for this comment on measurements. If measurements matter most to you, Delta-Sigma DACs, not R2R DACS are the way to go.

I haven't heard the Audio-GD, so I can't comment on this from a sound quality perspective.
