Too bad that you are obviously situated in North America, as going bankrupt for medical reasons and being treat with hostility for "socialist" opinions is a very specific U.S. problem.

Not only "wrong" place to live, also wrong forum to utter audiophile scepticism!

I find conflict stimulating, comes from my experience as a Marine. As long as it is insults and not bullets, I don't mind at all.

I don't set out to create conflict but I will give as good as I get if it comes my way. An old Marine Corps saying is "the best defense is an overwhelming offense".

Honestly, my views are not strictly socialist but I shall not speak of them since I have already been cautioned about being "political".

Let's see. You make an inflammatory comment. Someone responds. You then interpret the response as an insult, pretend that person initiated the perceived attack, and then claim that you have "won" the argument. Do I have it about right?

Look, you have some good things to say. I happen to agree with many of your substantive points. Why not stick to the merits, rather than constantly derailing your own threads?

The largest debtor nation in the world.

Not exactly my definition of "success".

Very brave indeed. I must commend you for that. I'm very sorry for the sheer negativism you've faced here as of late. I'm not sure why since your arguments were quite objective and in my opinion, does not warrant such heated aggression.

Hopefully, you'll encounter more openmindeness from other communities of your views. Good luck.

So, you didn't mean it as an insult when you said "A legend in your own mind"?

Exactly how *did* you mean it?

The only nation in the world where my family could be as successful as it is, building a privately owned medical imaging archive that's the largest database in the world - including those owned by socialist medicare systems. The nation in which it is by far the easiest to go from 100k in debt to a multi-millionaire in 7 years. Try that in a socialist country - you can't unless you're a member of the government yourself!

That's my definition of an environment for success.

But enough politics.

I get attacked just about everywhere I go because my views are my own and have been developed over decades without reference to socially accepted norms.

First I was a poor geek, then I was a Marine, then I was a hippie, then I was a dad and now I'm a grandpa..

I've taken elements of all those into my style and it makes for a weird combination on many levels.

*You* brought up politics, not me.

Of course, it's all going to be moot in about fifty years or so when the oceanic ecosystem is completely ruined.

We'll all die then.

Not to mention it's the only country in the world where you can go from multi-millionaire to sewer rat in 7 days. Everything has a backside you know. No point in sugarcoating stuff. It's also the only country where so many people have $100.000 debts.

True though. It's only possible in the US. But is that necessarily a good thing?

Indeed. I'm kind of looking forward to growing older just to see what the world will turn into.

Less OT though...

Honestly, I really don't see what's so bad about his view on this. Surely, some points are quite arguable but I believe he's making a very good point.

Where did I say insulted? I say two identical words and you read 'insult'? Nor me nor the original sentense I quoted implied insult. I said 'hear, hear' but maybe I should have said 'read, read...'?

Ah yes; that fits you much, much more accurately. At the opening of my post, I said that it was funny how forum personas repeat. The person who sprang to mind happens to use this avatar in my neck of the woods:

Same sort of posting style. He is currently having a similarly dismal 'discussion' about arcade systems. Ah well. I now definitely know better than the feed the goblin, so I'll just leave you all to it.

No one's telling you because you just say "Ah, another unprovoked insult! How crude!"
