I wouldn't do it. On a side note, I just remembered someone recommending this system to me saying that it sounded fantastic: http://www.rslspeakers.com

MP3 truncates at 17khz. There's almost no musical information up there and many people can't hear that high. That's one of the things about full range drivers I guess.

afaik, for lame encoded mp3s, frequency truncation for each alt preset- is:

normal - 17000hz,

extreme - 19500hz

insane - 20500hz

hope that helps.

The last time I heard them they sounded awfully thin. There aren't a whole lot of products in the price category you can afford that people say good things about. The rsl is apparently one of them. I'm still considering buying one to use with my tv as a budget throwaway solution.

Please don't take this as a firm endorsement of the rsl's. I have not heard them. I have been told that they are very smooth and well suited for classical. That's about all I know in a nutshell.

They do have a satisfaction guarantee with shipping covered both ways. You can't lose there.

Get the Chaintech and the refurb Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's (basically brand new, no one has ever been able to say they looked used) and shut up. Believe me, you'll be impressed.

edit: Hmmm...you'll probably want links.

Here's the Chaintech at newegg:

And the refurb 2.1's aren't listed right now in Klipsch's shop, so I'll just give you this link:

Wait a week or so and I'm sure they'll get them restocked and ready to go. You could always get the GMX 2.1 as a substitute, I've heard they're different but fine speakers.
