Darth Beyers or D2000

May 25, 2007 at 5:10 PM Post #31 of 49
Ex0du5 - pls note that in the post above I was commenting about an observation re standard D2000 or D5000 - Not Darths or customized Denon(none have been released). FYI - I have owned differing incarnations of both Screened and normal closed Darths (and presently have 2 differing v.3). Furthermore, no-one mentioned an iPod in this regard. But FWIW any iPod listening is done using a post 4/11 Xin Supermacro LE, but my comments are specifically from computer w/ ESI Juli@ card/ Corda HA2 Mk II amp.

Ah ok then. Just be wary that the iPod headphone amp does cause significant distortions to piano and violin. Try plugging your Denons straight into your iPod and play a piano track, it should be quite noticeable.

This is mostly apparent with the iPod Photo though. I know a decent amount about it because I have an iPod photo

. Hopefully the higher impedance HD-25-1 won't have this problem when I get them.

ex0du5, my reccomendation is to NEVER plug anything into a 4G ipod Photo's headphone jack

. lol If I were you id only use its line out to an amp.

The Darth bass is "unique" -- I have never heard similar bass on another (any!) headphone. Ever. Hard to describe.

The Bass God lives within the Darth's....

And yes, I DO own V3 Darth's and D2000 cans -- and have obviously actually heard both, not just "theorizing".
Both are good in their own way.

I know!!! But unfortunately I don't have the cable to use the line-out, and I don't have the space to carry a CMOY with me on the go.

Even deeper and tighter, believe it or not!

But not overwhelming -- hard to describe.

Bass-wise, Darth's could eat the 990's and spit out the headband!

The Darth and DT990 are my two favorite "bass" cans.
My D2000 is still burning-in, and at this point, is still not as nice as the DT990 -- no comparison with Darth's at all right now.

Its not the best amp, but for pure size, get the mini box-D, and any old line-out cable, it will barely take up any more space, just band/velcro it onto your player.

I used to have a Photo 60gb, but I couldnt live with the sq compared to my h140 i had to sell it (But I never knew about line out back then!!). These iMods are sooo tempting tho.....

Actually, I think you described the Denon bass accurately...............but overall, they have to follow my 32ohm Darths, dt990/600, and other Darths...................I think of them (Denon) as a much more comfortable Grado-type replacement - which isn't a major part of my listening habits.

Yes, for sure, COMFORT is the D2000's middle name!
Amazingly so. I never thought any other full-size cans would edge out the DT990's comfort-wise.
Wow -- take off Grado's and put on D2000 -- talk about extremes in comfort!

Agreed, the D2000/5000 are supremely comfortable - I also agree better in that regard even than the very comfy Beyer DT770/880/990.

And I love my D5000's - they are awesome sounding.

i finally got to try my ah-d2000's. most comfortable headphones ever! very well built like everyone says. The headphone cable does tangle easily but i'll learn to live with that for a while. i'm still a newb, but really need an amp now with these. bout to start browsing the amps section for reccomendations on a 100-150 dollars amp.
