I was sure I was after the Denon d2000s, but after much reading and pondering it appears that I may be better to put my money towards the Darth Beyers. I am looking for Closed HPs with superb Bass (deep, punchy, no bloat), with a big soundstage and some nice airiness. From what I have read people have had their doubts about the cord for the D2000 and there may (or may not) be some long term build-quality issues with the Denons. I am also weary of the FOTM status it has recieved. My current setup is PC -> Meier Arietta, but that could change at any moment (thanks to this place

). I was looking for a headphone for Electronic/Modern Orchestral, Metal, HipHop and possibly even a hint of Jazz. I am not up to play on the price of the Darths, but from what I have read it seems that they are around the price of the D2000s.

On a side note, there are tons of mods for the Darths, So could those in the know give me a hint as to what cable (or anything else) is vital to get that Darth sound.

Cheers.

I had a few hours with the D2000's last weekend and loved them. I mostly listen to Senns (650/600) and the D2000 really surprised me with the amount of bass, level of detail, speed and similarities to the Senns. For the price, you they are hard to beat. With the money saved you can have them recabled. Plus, Larry will be modding these pretty soon and you can have a nice pair of Darth D2000. You could also have both the D2000 and the Darth V3 and live happy too

I've never heard the Darth Beyers but absolutely love my Denon D2000. The build quality on this thing is first rate! No plastic pieces that snap together or are glued...everything is held together with screws. The leather on the cups and headband is soft and supple...and real. About the only complaint I have with them IS the damn cord, but like johnsonad said...you can get them recabled.

FWIW, I listen to mine via the computer ==> Zhaolu 1.3 ==> Headfive. I find myself listening to my older CDs that I haven't listened to in years just to see how they sound with the D2ks. At the risk of sounding like a Denon fanboy, I really love these cans!

Darth Beyers are warmer sounding than the D2000, and have even more bass. They have a more "relaxed" sound than the D2000. They also have even more bass. I prefer the Darth Beyer, but not everone will. I think the best suggestion was to get both

Darth Beyers can be had for as little as $345.

i'd go with the darth beyers if you want A LOT of bass. plus your arietta is a good match (from what i heard) with DBs.

But, how does the detail of the bass and mids compare? Two things the Denons are really great at IMO.

What choice of cable do you have for your darth beyers? Is there a large difference in sound between the cables Larry offers?

Interest X2. Although I am a bass head I also like a bit of detail, but I am liking this more "relaxed" idea. Is it phat bass with detail, or boom bass with bloat?

nuttin wrong with a little bit of bloat... cushion for the pushin!

i kid. but still, the DBs are known to have GREAT BASS with no bloat... i'd be surprised if it had any "bloatedness" at all
