Good to see another happy DV owner. I love my 336. It is an awesome value and the guys in Chengdu were very helpful to me with my limited Chinese skills!

I bought 2 tubes off ebay, a used chrome top 6snp sylvania (sounds excellent, much better than the shugang stock tube) and an electro harmonix 6snp new.
The EH hums quite loud, even with the volume at minimum, what causes it?
How can I reduce the hum, or is it a poor tube?

I think EH 6SN7's sound pretty bad. If the Sylvania is working well, stick with that - it's a much better sounding tube.

The DV 336 is famous for humming with some 6SN7 tubes and not others. It's the amp's biggest weakness.

I like the Tung-Sol 5998 the best, but they cost $25. The RCA 6AS7G is nice sounding, and very cheap - can be had easily for less than $10.

TS 5998's seem a little Crisper and more forceful to me. But don't discount the RCA 6AS7G tube for it's sweet smoothness and musicality. Just my 2 cents.

it's actually about the same as ebay sellers.. maybe $5 difference
but then again, ebay has 10% cashback so in the end ebay is better deal, for usa at least

the only con for 337 is every time for upgrade is twice the money. 2 driver tubes, 2 signal tubes and two power cords
. otherwise, very very happy for 2 years now.
