Too lazy to go get it, I've eBayed it to myself today for $10 less.

"pure nekro kvlt" gets boring as imitation. Although a late comer, by my count wasn't the 'Golden Age' of Black Metal over about ten years ago? I get annoyed when I try a new band hoping for "expanding the boundries of dark metal" and instead get "clones". If they stay within the strict boundaries of a subgenre, as long as they do it justice and don't just imitate, then I'm fine with it. If it's just imitation, then move on past the boundaries and try being original.

As for the clones they don't seem very Burzum to me. That voice! Inimitable really. Wyrd is the musically closest Burzum clone I've heard. Now Darkthrone clones are a different matter.

You BUTT!!! I bought this album because of you (and for the hell of it), and I really like it. A little zaney at times with the laughing, but the music and the kinda operatic singing is just great. A very good album to just blast around the house. The members of the band look rediculous but to me, but it goes with the way the music is illustrated in my head.

I am all set to go see Opeth on October 10. I am really psyched. I really hope they play April Ethereal and BWP. Wooooo, I hope they play all night!!!

What.........where did you buy new Arcturus CD?
I haven't seen it anywhere in USA yet, or are you talking about previous Arcturus CD?

ET
The "golden" age for black metal was around 1993-98, there is so much great genre defining material made then that almost everything since sounds like pale imitation.......currently only a few elite groups can really perform at same level like Taake, Watain etc (and no USA group I have heard can)
"Burzum clone" is just a generic term to describe black metal group that is just rehashing same sounds that have been done much better before.

After Forever started out as a Gothic Symphonic Metal band, with Mark Janssen at the helm, and over the last two albums (without Mark) they have sort of left the Gothic Symphonic behind them, sort of - they are now probably a Progressive Gothic Symphonic Metal Band (getting technical). Ive noticed that Sander's grunts have changed over the last two albums as well, increased range , but I dont think he uses the pitch correctly compared to when he sang in the same pitch and key over the first two albums.

like virtually every gothic album, Remagine has an intro, and like most other albums it is a good lead into the first some.

Excellent Production on this CD as well, aside from the usual shredding guitar and bass distortion, the drums and vocals are crisp and without veil, Highs are fair, keys are also very prominent when used.

As far as songs go, Remagine is a very strong album. Come and Boundaries are good tracks to get settled to, and then Living Shields hits you, this track is amazing. The drum beats and guitar shreds are completely synergetic with the chorus which is composed of the After Forever choir only, very powerful with contrast, just makes you headbang, its hard to restrain! But I get headaches too fast so i just tap my feet as hard as i can haha.
Floor and Sander sing the Bridges of this song, and I hear After Forever's first ever guitar solo!
Being Everyone and Attendance are a bit more settled down, but then the shred and headbanger aspect hits you again in Free of Doubt.
Only Everything, Strong and Face Your Demons are also strong tracks, No Control and Forever I havent gotten into yet but then again I havent listened to the album 100 times yet

a few other tracks have guitar solos too.

i'd say this is their best album, but to me Prison of Desire cannot be beaten, but Remagine topples Decipher and Invisible Circles.

Saw Opeth last sunday... I could sum it all up by saying that Blackwater Park and The Grand Conjuration were among the most evil sounding live performances I have ever heard. Too bad the set had nothing from Orchid or Morningrise, but still, Opeth was just godlike. Even better than in 2003.

Opeth has an impressive usage of lights, usually different colors for mellow/heavier parts and good synchronization with music, in example Deliverance started with rapidly flashing, very intense lights and In My Time of Need was mostly different shades of green. Otherwise, it's just stand still and headbang, though Opeth is known for their long speaks beetween the songs. In Finland it mostly was some stupid jokes about finns (heh) and wondering why in every gig people are shouting for Black Rose Immortal.

The music, however, is really where Opeth liveperformance shines. The nuances and atmosphere of the mellow parts are great with added synths even on older tracks and creative use of guitar effects and have a more floating/prog feel than album versions, and the heavier parts are even heavier than on albums. Great example of this was The Grand Conjuration, where a lot of dissonant chords and guitar feedback were added and all the "boring parts" were filled up with some extra growls. Opeth really should do another DVD with a proper setlist...

I have 1st two albums by AF (prison + decipher) then gave up on them, knew by looking at cover photo of recent "invisible circles" CD that I should avoid this.........prehaps I will try newest CD you mention.

I did purchase Midnattsol CD, samples sound good but no Tristania.

I see where Tristania has repackaged 2 EPs + 45 minute DVD of Widow Weeds tour concert together, The End has it but DVD is PAL format and my DVD players are all region 1, love to have seen Vibeke in action......

Mine is a multi-region.

I wonder why WW and not BTV? Did they tour that? Maybe that's coming later. Despite getting lots of stuff over the last two years (yes many clones) BTV still stands apart in so many ways.
