Yes good news even if they are not quite as good minus Morten Veland, but last album "world of glass" was worth getting.

I have to take back what I said recently about GREEN CARNATION, 1st album not that good but 2nd album "light of day" is good.

Scott.......another item from Dark Symphonies for you to get (besides Nicodemus & Twelfth of Never) is:
Haggard
Large ensemble (10-15 members) with female & death vocals kinda like Therion, mixes classical and dark metal very effectively.

'World of Glass' or 'Beyond the Veil' as a 1st purchase of Tristania? Or either as they're both worthy?

In a pinch for a quick listen, although hardly an accurate picture, I slightly prefered the 30 second Amazon samples of 'World of Glass'.

For TRISTANIA the two masterworks are:
-beyond the veil
-widow weeds

Get these first then "glass" album, as I mentioned above one of the founding members and creative force Morten Veland left after 2nd album. World of Glass has a more mainstream feel to it, good but not the dark masterpiece like first two.

I've been listening to Blot by Einherjer. Good Viking Death fun. Is there other stuff like this album?

I second this advice, though if you can swing it, they are all worth having.

I can swing it.
(Despite a recent unexpected 10% decrease in income

).
I've ordered the following:
TRISTANIA-'widow weeds'-'beyond the veil' & 'World of Glass'
(+ My Bloody Valentine-'Loveless').

Shipped together it should take 2 weeks.

I have that album also and think it is good, best I have ever heard from this group.

You want more great Viking/Folk inspired metal:

MOONSORROW - all albums
FALKENBACH - all albums
VINTERSORG - Till Fjalls + Odemarken's Son
ENSLAVED - Frost + Eld
AMON AMARTH - Versus the world
WINDIR - all albums

many many more.........

Why does it take two weeks to get CDs to you, where are you ordering from?

Unfortunately I have recently been ordering from Century Media which is slow as a turtle and ships by UPS ground from LA (I live in Ohio) and my orders take 2-3 weeks to get.

They do have larger selection vs The End and prices are often at least $1 cheaper per CD.......free shipping for orders over $80. Recently got/ordered stuff by:
-Ragnarok (2nd album features Shagrath of Dimmu Bogir!)
-Lucifugum (members from Nokturnal Mortem)
-Kampfar
-Manegarm
-Twin Obscenity

Also how could a key loyal employee such as yourself be subjected to the indignity of a paycut, he he.

NP: TWIN OBSCENITY - Blood, Honor, Soil

There is no recognition of merit as a number/wage slave in a gigantic governMENTAL beaurocracy. There was a union contract change. The change means an occasional 72Hrs bi-weekly rather than 80 Hrs, with a rare but possible absolute minimum of 64Hrs bi-weekly. It's not so bad, sometimes i'm mighty %@#&* tired and would love that extra day off.

First it was Immortal, they broke up. Then the Darkthrone site quit working. Now The Crown has called it quits.

They had just redone Crowned in Terror and retitled it. I am assuming they plan to release it sometime this year, but I'm confused by this statement Quote:

The timing for giving up now is both good and bad:
Bad because Possessed 13 is an incredible album that deserves some decent touring, but I guess all professional booking agencies have their hands full as it is.
Good because we decided to not sign a new deal with Metal Blade, and now that we finally have Crowned in Terror (Crowned Unholy!!!) sounding like it was supposed to, the timing is superb.

Then to top that off Dimmu Borgir replaced Nick Barker with a new drummer, Reno Kiilerich. Quote:

Reno joins the DIMMU ranks as a temporary replacement for Nick Barker, who was unceremoniously "removed" from the group's lineup in January.

Then to make matters worse Dimmu will be at this years Ozzfest.

Old Mans Child is more or less on hold for any new offerings.

Cradle of Filth's latest studio report mentions getting the choir recorded. Which makes me wonder if I was wrong about this new album being better than their last one. Plus the photos from the studio make Dani look fat, and ......... who are those guys? I wasn't paying attention to lineup changes there, but it looks like they are not the same band they were 4 years ago.

With my favorite bands either dissolved or putting out crap, what am I going to listen too? I can't keep playing the same 5 or 6 albums over and over for ever.

Well, I gave up on COF ages ago. As the last few releases were not very good at all, IMHO.

Cruelty was the last good thing that they put out, I just can't listen to anything else since then.

I think it's time for you to start looking at some different and new bands.

I'm about to give up on COF also.
I definitely need to find some new or at least, other bands. But who can compare to Immortal and Darkthrone? With Dimmu appearing to be heading towards a downturn, and Old Mans Child lying dormant, where do I turn? Arch Enemy is good, but I need more than one album every couple of years.
I can't get really into Zyklon, or Darkane. Shadow seems promising by the one album I have, but still not as good as Immortal. I'm not impressed with Grimfist, or Agathodaimon.
What about the thrasheir side? At The Gates is okay, but I don't like them as well as The Crown.

I guess I will just have to do a lot of research all over again.
