I just got this. A few interesting songs, and a couple of so-so covers. The DVD isn't anything special. This mini-cd was out quite a while ago in Europe, and it is meant to be an introduction to the next CD, "Invisible Circles" which is a concept album. It is already out in Europe.

Sounds like nothing too promising to look forward to from AFTER FOREVER, I knew I would regret paying full price for that mcd so I took a pass.

Speaking of regrets
Why did I waste more money on ELEND, I already knew I didn't like first album but felt compelled to buy 2nd album........another waste of my money

I just hope Nacher is right about new album "wind" because right now ELEND is 0-2 for me.

This morning I am checking out my AETURNUS albums:
-night became
-wandering moon

Sorry to hear that, but I didn't like the 1st two or 3 CDs as well. They didn't get good until Umbersun, IMHO.

I was not familiar with AETERNUS previously, these albums remind me of early GEHANNA or early DIMMU "stromblast" era material, mostly mid tempo atmospheric dark metal, like fog rolling in over graveyard on dark moon night. Nice vibe to them but a bit one dimensional after 60 minutes or so......will listen some more.

Yes that is the ELEND album that is very hard to find now, can't say that I am really motivated to search it out at this point.

I have spent a lot of time searching for Umbersum, but it seems to be almost impossible to find. Some shops tried to get it for me, but failed. Surprisingly, I found the album from the local library music section, hehe. I burned a CD-R from it, but I yield for original.

Or not that much actually. Even though Umbersum is better than the first albums, it's still quite close to them. WDR just sounds like a different band altogether. You may or may not like it, but it's vastly different than Elend's work in the 90s. If I have understood correctly, even the bands lineup has changed a lot from those days.

That Elend Album "Umbersum" is extremely hard to find, I only "have" it in MP3 format, I don't own the actual CD since it is long out of print.

ELEND - Wind Devouring Men
Well Nacher is right about one thing, this is by far the best ELEND album. I would not call it great but worth having, closest comparison in style would be DEAD CAN DANCE but they have a medievil style/structure to music where ELEND WDM is more modern influenced and abstract, also generally dark and somber overall atmosphere but sometimes songs seem to ramble on a bit too long. I like DCD albums more than WDM overall BTW.

One mistake Elend makes here is no female vocals here as before
frown.gif
There are some choral sections and background humming, but where are those angelic female vox?

Also although tri-fold digipak is very nice, instead of plastic CD tray they use cardboard sleeve.

This means you get fingerprints and/or scratches on CD very easily.

i have a few things to say about the end records. i sent my money and online print form out for more than 3 weeks and gets nothing. i emailed them and gave them my info, but they didnt care. i tried 3 times, but it was worthless, lost $40. i also ordered 2 cd before that, and they only sent me 1 of the cd i ordered.

the problem is they are the only shop that have the cds i wanted in the US for cheap price. so i asked to use my bro credit card for safer transfer this one last attempt, i hope it get something or i'll be quite pissed. i think they ripped me off twice and is really slow in servive.

you know something else, new opeth cds are extremely cheaply builted. becareful with it or you can easily break it in half.

It used to be that when the order was "fulfilled" is when it was shipped. The last order I got from them was shipped via Airborne to my local post master and then by mail carrier from the post office to my house
confused.gif
Airborne doesn't come to my town on an everyday basis, so it bypasses me then comes back the one day that week that a driver brings down the airborne packages.

One note about The End. If an item is not in stock, it simply not sent and not billed to your card. They don't tell you anything, at all. I've had that happen a lot.
Once I got a CD that was credited back to my card. It was confusing, but they had sent my the CD but not charged me because it was missing the front cover. I thought that was cool.

My latest order was fulfilled on 4/05. I haven't gotten it yet.

Kind of disheartening to hear this about The End, since they seem to carry such a wide selection of stuff that isn't otherwise available.

I love TRAIL OF TEARS, all three albums are well worth getting, including the 1st album "disclosure in red" which you have now. It is a little easier to find now, I had to look very hard to get my copy 2 years ago.......but Trail of Tears is one best "beauty & beast" acts out there, overdue for new album.

BTW did you know that ToT uses new female vocalist Cathrin Paulsen on latest album, previous two including "disclosure" feature Helena Michaelsen......both sound great though.

I recently mentioned here that SIRENIA's new album "elixir" is very good and takes Morten Veland one step closer to his glory days with TRISTANIA, best new B&B I have heard in a while.

Check out group called TWELFTH OF NEVER over at Dark Symphonies:
12th of never
Not technically B&B because male vocals are clean but still very good like a dark Cocteau Twins or Dean Can Dance, I really like this and just recently also ordered debut album.

Also we have mentioned here long ago the group GRAVEWORM, but not sure whether you bought any. You must get:
-as angels reach the beauty 1999
-when daylight's gone/underneath cresent moon
-source of malice 2001
great music, female vocals with violin mixed in.

DA,

Can always count on you for some great suggestions. I think the place where I got ToT also had Profoundemonium as well. If it's as good as the frist albume I'll be very happy.

Also if you are buying TWELFTH OF NEVER from Dark Symphonies check out the NICODEMUS albums, these are very good also:
-supernatural omnibus
-tales of lovelorn & necromantic
(you may have these already can't recall)

My order from The End came yesterday, 04/13. It was short one CD. They refunded my money for Eternal Tears of Sorrow. They also threw in a CD called Apokalyptik Warfare. Kind of sampler type thing that has a price tag on it of 5 bucks. It's bad.

Aina is very cool. It's packaged in a small book format with slip sleeves for the 3 discs. There are a lot of pages to the book. A story on the concept idea and the words to the whole opera, and a story on how it all came together. There are pictures of the artists involved, and some nice artwork also. Well worth the $18 price tag. I haven't had time to really listen to it. I did go through the first disc. This is very much an opera. Old world style set to metal music. I couldn't help but think of Tommy, only this is better done. The story is similar to something that Tolkien would write. A fantasy land with it's own language and the struggle of good vs evil. They made up a language to use here and there in the opera. There isn't any growly vocals on the first disc, and I doubt there will be any on the second one. It's not that type of music.

Shadow - Shadow, these guys are okay. Very much in the style of Old Mans Child and COB in the music. The vocals are different than those two though. Growly, very growly, and a bit screamy. I haven't heard the whole disc yet, so I will not comment further until I do. It seems promising.

PD
I was looking at AINA but when they list who the musicians are and what groups they are from..............I don't like many of them.
Mostly from power metal groups that are on the "cheesey" side. (epica, kamelot, rhapsody etc)
frown.gif

Now there is a simliar super project called GREEN CARNATION which has much better line up of real dark metal musicians, there are 3 albums out:
-light of day
-journey to the end of night
-blessing in disguise (new album)
I have first two albums and they are well worth getting.

NACHER
New IN FLAMES is not that bad, better than previous RTR. It actually has much heavier feel than RTR similar to older work but what is new is some industrial/keyboard touches here and there.
Rasp vocals are back replacing the clean vocals on much of RTR, so again album has a harder edge overall sound. Unfortunately whenever band changes sound slightly the "tr00" fans cry sell out........Nach did you really think this is bad?
