One thing I forgot in my review of the K17 was the dedicated FiiO DSP application (as I had presumed it was only on Windows and I mostly use a Mac). But I noticed there is a FiiO DSP App in the Mac App Store and I thought I would give it a go today (and also fired up my Windows Laptop to compare it with the windows version) and both are mostly the same - the Windows one has a RTA analyzer which is very cool but I do think this is the "icing on the cake" as far as the K17 is concerned especially for those who like to tinker with settings.

The normal Windows editing a specific filter:

When running the RTA:

And here is the MacOS version after editing a filter:

And the FiiO Control mobile apps also can see and edit the various filters - but do not have access to all the various tweak.

I know this app was originally for the K19 but I think it is a nice addition to the FiiO Control App "PEQ editing" capability.

Anyone made a comparision for sound quality between the FIIO K17, K19 and the R9?
Which one sounds better?

Or ist the acoustic signature different (as for example "analytical sound" vs. "warmer sound" signature)?

Dear friend,

K19 favors high resolution, more open soundstage. Together with the powerful 8W output power, K19's low-frequency dynamics is strong.K17 has a strong vocal ambience in mid frequency, bass dive is deep and elastic. Besides, K17 has thicker vocals, with sound contamination.
And due to individual preferences, you could read the professional reviews and comparisons, as well as try out by yourself.

Best regards

Thank you for your explanations.

I am already looking out for some reviews aswell as the possibility to listen to the FIIO headphoneamps here in Bavaria/Germany.

May I ask you for a word on the R9? You did mention the K19 vs. the K17, so I would like to learn more on your experience concerning the R9.

A fact that is interesting, is that several FIIO headphone amps offer the possibility to connect a LPS and thus "overriding" the internal power supply....

I have been looking into may be getting a K17 or K19 for my Noire X and Sony MDR-MV1. Input and outputs as well as the PEQ features look very good. Also, the K17's touchscreen looks like a nice touch, (no) pun intended. I had two questions for owners of the K17 (and/or K19).

1) Has anybody compared either the K19 or K17 with the K11 (OG) and/or the k9akm by any chance? How different or alike are they (edit: in terms of sound)? The K17 has two AKM chips, while the k9akm has only one, but does that make a difference? I saw the comparison video review of the K19 and K17 posted above, which was very helpful. In terms of usability, the K17 looks like it's more convenient, and it's quite a bit cheaper than the K19 here.

2) How much of a difference do the pre-installed PEQ profiles make?

I'm asking, because I really love the little K11 OG, which I use at work. In contrast, the k9akm sounded too laid back and boring to my ears, lacking dynamics and punch. Given that the K17 and K19 cost quite a bit more than the k9akm, I'd rather not make the same mistake again.

Hi 😉
I have K11 R2R and K17.
The K11 is very portable and convenient, I kept it for travel and business trips when you only need to take a laptop, headphones and a DAC.
The K17 is a device of another level.
They both sound very good if you do not compare them, but after listening to the K17, you will be a little disappointed in the K11 and what you thought sound well, in fact, is not as good as it sound on the K17.

Had a taste of the K17 streaming Tidal when I demoed a Schiit Lyr+ the other day.
I won't know how much of what impressed me was down to the K17 or Lyr+ until the amp is delivered in the next couple of days but the least I can say is what a big, juicy sounding combo.
I'm now a wee bit nervous for my VMV DAC.
