D2000 or HD650

I prefer my HD650 to the Denon D2000 almost everyday. Even comfort. The D2000's start to get warm on your ears and are a bit heavier and sort of move around on your head if you are moving much.

The 650 are much airier and more refined IMO than the D2000. The D2000 is great if you are looking for something "fun", I wouldn't call them "reference" cans though at all.

and btw D2000 is closed whereas HD650 is open, and the HD650 price is almost twice as D2000..

For the price (250 bucks) i think D2000 is really really good and won't dissapoint you

IMO though.

HD650 can usually be bought <$300 on eBay (yes, new), so the 2x assertion is inaccurate.

I am all for everyone stating an opinion, but the facts should be considered at least occasionally.

Last time I bought HD650? Within the last week.

I'd agree with this except for the fact that the HD-650's also sound good with bass orientated music.

Okay, that's true. I was trying to be diplomatic in my previous post. If the OP doesn't want an amp, he should get the Denons. Otherwise, he should believe The Monkey. That's pretty much the deal.

D2000 for me. HD650 was way to forward and less comfortable. Soundstage wise I would say they were about equal, but then again I'm use to listening with AT headphones.

holy ****, thanks for the replies guys.

as far as price goes, i found the 650's for 380 on B&H using the "email for a better price" link. so price wasnt so different.

im gonna take all these excellent points into consideration as i do a few more A B tests.

Thanks guys

You should be able to get them in excellent condition, but used, for at least $100 less here in the FS forum. That's money that could be put towards an amp (not a portable amp, btw).

This suggestion is wise. OP, to expand on my initial post, if you intend to stay involved with this hobby, the 650 is the way to go. I say this for a few reasons: 1) sound quality; it scales very very well as you inevitably climb the source/amp ladder; 2) as an offshoot of 1, you have many aftermarket cable choices for the 650 and it sounds great balanced; 3) I've found the 650 very useful when reading reviews and comparing notes because so many folks use them as reference cans.

Also, with the right setup, the senns definately rock.

Two great cans. I agree with most of the posts. Denon is great even unamped, but IMHO in order to make it sound great, it needs a tube amplifier. The 650 is definitly a reference can, it deserves good amplification and source in order to sound great though. If you can buy both of them..
