Custom made 3.5mm adapter for T809! & CHEAP ATH-EC7!

I find it very hard to accept that even B-stock headphones would be sold for <20% of their MSRP. The B Stock HD600's I was looking at were still $200. Considering that MSRP on them are what? $450? That's still 45%.

Pouch looks fake.

But for $20, not much to lose...

The overlapping rubber does NOT happen on the real EC7's. I saw them myself.

Would you like proof?

Here you go. 2 pictures.

Happy buying fake ones!

well, my pair just came in the mail.

i'm listening to them now, but i won't be able to post impressions until i have some time later.

at a first glance, i was pleasantly surprised at the build quality of these. based on my past experiences with chinese knockoffs, these don't strike me as being fake.

i have not been "wowed" by the sound quality, but again, i think these actually exceeded my expectations. i'll make more comments later about sound, especially how these didn't ship with foam covers- i always use foam covers with earbuds due to fit issues.

verdict: i'm actually pretty happy with my purchase. i'd go as far as recommending these, but i will with-hold that urge until i've had more time with these. authentic or not, these fit the bill for my need of another portable earbud (i broke my e888s and my ksc75s leak a bit too much at work). again, i have not had experience with the "real" AT's so I can't comment on that aspect.

Yeah I think it's a little to sketchy. Hopefully AT will clear the air.

hmm anyways i'll try to get some comparison pics between the ATH-EC7 and the one from microcenter: ATH-EC7 GM. I am away from home now.

Anyways i was browsing around ebay again...and i found a seller with these

http://cgi.ebay.com/Geniues-Audio-Te...QQcmdZViewItem

from that picture, it seems like the hinge has the same amount of covering....

also the same seller that I got my EC7s from is now selling "OEM CX300"
http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-Creative-E...QQcmdZViewItem

maybe someone should try a pair of those

there have been quite a few threads about these so called ebay OEM AT buds. come on guys, it's obvious they're fake. why would a company like AT allow their manufacturing partner to sell headphones that have the AT/model number on it for a fraction of the listed price? what kind of business sense does this make? also, why would the manufacturer sell actual ec7 to anyone else and risk harming the business partnership with AT? if anything, the business relationship with AT is probably more lucrative than selling these "oem" cans for a small profit.

just to add fuel to the fire:

while i do enjoy these earbuds, i believe firmly that these are NOT retail EC7's. i've been looking at wholesale prices for EC7's and the wholesale price is still ~$30-60 per pair. These are selling for much less than the wholesale price.

i do not have a hard time believing, however, that these may be factory seconds/rejects/whatever that didn't make the cut to retail quality (perhaps because the metal-work on these are NOT flawless). that, or these are simply knockoffs (though I tend to think are too good to be knockoffs IMO). sound-wise, I can't comment because I don't have experience with "real" retail-quality EC7's.

impressions:
I've been listening to these out of my ipod mini for the past ~2hrs. Sound seems to have improved overall: they are becoming more refined to my ears. These do not have the clarity nor detail that I was hoping to achieve, and the lows sound very muddy. However, note that I have not put the foams on them, and things may change as the fit improves. IMHO, these are no match for the ksc75, but the comparison may be unfair because the koss is really a full-sized driver enclosed in a clip-on shell. Overall, I'm happy with the SQ considering what I paid (~$23 shipped) because these probably beat whatever's available in the stores in the ~$20 range. If the "real" EC7's sound like these, however, I'd feel pretty ripped off.

final thought:
I'm moderately happy with this purchase. I was skeptical at first mainly because OP was a new member with his first post being the start of this thread. It looked too much like shady advertising. To clear things up, I decided to bite the bullet and give these a shot. I think at least one other member besides myself and the OP ended up happy with this purchase. (Happy, at least, until the unit fails over time!) YMMV

(My first post here
580smile.gif
)

This link(korean w/ pics) shows Anycall branded EC7 Oems..

Anycall is the name of Samsung Brand Cell phones in Korea.
This link shows the package of Samsung's SPH-5400 cell phone (which seems to be high end and in korea high end cell phones cost ~$500)

The article says "an OEM version of Audio Technica's EC7 with an Anycall Logo is included". I also found several other websites saying this is an oem version of EC7.

I'm not sure what Samsung states in regard to this headphone though..

As you can see from the pics, the anycall branded EC7 has more area covered by rubber.

I'm guessing that Audio Technica might have came up with a cheapo version of EC7 just for OEMs.. If they are made in China, they will indeed get replicated

and get sold to many many places such as Ebay.
