Jan Meier does a good job explaining crossfeed. Basically, our brains are used to processing sounds in "real life" that have natural crossfeed. Meaning, we're not used to receiving separate information in the left and right ears in headphones. Our brains have to work a little harder to make sense of the sounds that way, hence the sort of headphone fatigue some notice, not related to volume.

To be honest it's hard to really gauge how effective these crossfeed simulations are. I THINK they help, as I've been using Meier's amps for many years, and I do seem to be able to listen to music longer without fatigue.

For that reason, I'd hesitate to go back, as much as I'd like to try some Schiit products and such.

Grace used to use Meier's crossfeed circuit design in older models, but lately I believe they have their own. The Grace Design Massdrop m9XX is a great value for a crossfeed DAC/amp combo.
