crinacle's IEM FR measurement database

Hi there! Anyone else able to help me out with the 8SL freq graph? I have a difficulty finding the 8SL graph to be honest. Any input would be great!

Same graph with the Gemini but just imagine lesser treble extension

Ok Great! But just to clarify, this is with bass boost on in Gemini? I've heard that the 8SL is a little thick sounding as compared to Gemini on bass boost. Is this true?

No, Gemini non-boost is similar to 8CL's bass. A boost on gemini makes it even bassier. Since the Gemini does have a fair bit of treble extension and with the bass boost, it turns v/u-shaped.

Nice - biggest concern is the lower treble drop. Just suggesting that if it was me I’d be getting it checked. What else have you measured? If you can match with something Crin or I have measured, it’ll tell you if there is something funky with your set-up

Hey @Brooko, I'm using a similar setup to Otto's (Dayton iMM-6 mic, USB interface, vinyl coupler).
I've measured the Fiio F1:
(no compensation)
F1 No Comp.jpg
(Crin's psuedo-IEC comp file)
F1 Crin Comp.jpg
My concern is that compared to your measurements, I have an extended dip at around 7.5k that seems to appear in a lot if not all of my measurements.

How would I go about altering Crin's comp file to correct this?

I’m not familiar with the software you are using. If Crin is loading a compensation file, then it’s just a matter of altering the compensation file to null the area which has the issues.

What I’d suggest doing is finding a manufacturer with an IEC711 or equivalent proper set-up. Get them to measure a set of their IEMs, send you their data, and then you measure the same IEMs on your rig and build a compensation file. Then measure other IEMs from them and tweak accordingly until you have something which consistently gives similar results. That’s what I did and has given my graphs better consistency.

I’m still out at approx 9kHz, and anything above 10 kHz is a crap-shoot (no hobbyist equipment is reliable above 10).

The hard part of course is finding a manufacturer who is willing to work with you to make this happen .......

Crin uses an iOS software on his iPhone with a Dayton mic.

The iOS app you’re referring to is called AudioTools.

The calibration files are usually simple text files. So they can be edited in any text editor. Depending on the program, the file extension may have to be changed. But the files still work the same.

It still goes well if one wants to compare with his previous database. Currently it is ofc IEC 60318-4 compliant

To be really precise the older measurement rig was using Dayton IMM-6 mic, with an app called FFTPlot on iOS. I've used that thing and tbh it's pretty nice. With periodic white noise it can log measurements rather quickly and quite reliably

He may have changed it in the meantime but he used the Dayton at trade shows...and cannot change these measurements posthumously.

Everything that isn't "Legacy" in the first post is made on the IEC60318-4 system. The "Legacy" measurements are made on the IMM6 + tubing system. I "restarted" the database last year in April but that was also only after I had been using the IEC system for almost a year at that point (first obtained in mid-2017 if you trawled through the-site-that-shall-not-be-named).
