COWON Z2 - The complete Review (from Izzi going)

Oct 26, 2012 at 3:22 PM Post #392 of 542
I was using a set of Klipsch S4a which sounded really nice on the Z2, although the control button didn't work. I never verified the mic functionality. I just lost my S4a on camping trip and ordered a set of Shure SE215's to replace them. I am looking forward to listening the the SE215's on the Z2.

i'm getting one of these tomorrow. it'll be from a uk supplier so guess it will have a eu volume limit applied/ is there any way round this? i've done a quick search but cannot find an answer.

I would assume you could root it and adjust from there...

a reviewer has said 'EU sound level limits the volume so download new firmware to get rid of this' http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B007S6KI38/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&tag=rnwff-20

When you install the firmware again the player should ask you your region on first boot. Set it to anywhere but EU.

oh ok thanks! seems easy enough. would that the same when first powering on from new or does that only apply when new firmware are installed? also is 4.35 (international) the one to go for on this page?

I think it occurs whenever a fresh firmware is installed and depending on which region the stocks sent to is preset by the manufacturer.

Yes that's the correct firmware.

Remove the volume cap, makes the player much better.

well i got my unit and on first power up it asked which region i was in (gave 3 options i think inc a 'eu region') and i selected 'global' so i guess i've not got the eu limit? im on 4.33 so will update to 4.35 and see if it asks again and try to remember all 3 options properly

what did you switch to?

I have a few different DAPs, but I bought the Z2 for the wifi aspect of it and it didn't live up to my expectations. The touch has quite a bit better range...
