aha, same for me, i live in Austria where we have even fewer things and shops, and i found 199 euros to be a total rip off for nothing 
it's the same about cars, my friends from the US New Jersey change their BMW5 every three year and receive a better price from their dealer than anything i can get in Europe, pray tell why (((((((

but if you think about C3 price in Germany a 100 euro price difference cannot be explained by taxes alone ((

What are the other competitors to the C3 at under $200? I was just going to go the route of finding a new Sony Walkman (what series?). Sansa is out - what about Cowon? Sound quality is important to me; however, my Sony has lasted 5 years - I still use it - and is bug free. I probably couldn't live with the C3 - it's too stripped down. I'd prefer something that's been around and just works.

Jarret, i have Cowons and find them more digital sounding compared to c3, right now i still have s9 and i9, plus two older models including famous x5L.

Perhaps, on paper this looks like a big killer. Lets see how happy buyers but i a curious about getting one if close or bests c3.

that's a good question ... even my RWAK can sometimes benefit from good amp and i doubt X3 will outshine RWAK in amp section.
so i would not be as sure until we hear people buying production units and posting their opinions.
that said X3 looks damn exciting on specs and else and is nice looking DAP design wise.

Help! I have just upgraded the firmware to 10.0.0.6 (not a pleasant experience again) and now the sound volume level seems have gone right down. I have to turn it up full just to hear anything. Anyone else encountered this or am I the lucky one?

I have not noticed a change in the output level, but you are not the first to mention this. I'll put the .3 firmware back on tonight and measure the output of both firmwares.

Has anyone already made the sound comparison between this giant killer,  Colorfly C3 (with & without amplifier) with the mighty HM-901 or AK-100 or 120?
I'm very curios how much does C3 fall behind in sound quality comparing to those top end DAPs?

I don't know if it was a blip but the sound level seems to have restored itself now. I tried to reset it (doesn't normally work) and it seems ok this morning, if a little quieter than normal.
