Colorfly C3 Discussion Thread

I'll probably pick up one of those SMSL cables as I like the look of it...

These are the current IC's I use with my C3 all of them are DIY.

The Woodie is for the C3 to E11, it adds a very "Earthy" sound.

The Neutrik NTP3RC's & IEEE-1384 Wire is for the E17, it's great for "Eletronic Music".

And the DICE just add's a "Fun Sound" to it all...

That SMSL cable looks good for the price, small, clean and neat...

I personally do not believe that a 2" piece of wire will make a lick of difference, but for those that do...

This IC would give you the best synergy between the devices.

I don't want to spend that much. $25 -$50 is fine if the cable is dressed nicely. I believe there is a point you're being snake oiled. :p

In your opinion, which is the best silver plated cable in term of sound quality for C&C BH / C3?

Well, the second link is pure silver why it's more expensive, it will depend what you're pairing with the amp and player, C3 already leans a touch away from warm as does C&C BH. Adding a pure silver may push things over the edge with brightness and treble. So from the two cables I would personally pick the first one you linked sticking with silver plated imo.

Don't waste money on stuff that doesn't make any difference to the siund quality. It doesn't make sense

You might be better off trying something like this.

Both H20Fidelity (respected headfier) and Gintaras (who has real experience with this combo), who have already confirmed that the C&C BH managed to push C3 to next level of amazing sound quality!

Now the next question is: how close is the sound quality with this combo (C3+ C&C BH) comparing to the top end audiophile DAPs which is 3X to 4.5X more expensive ?

And is it worth of money to invest in those top end audiophile DAPs with the sound quality that you will get? Please comment.

Below is the investment:

C3 (8G): $115
C&C BH: $100
Sliver plated cable: $40
====================
Total: $255
====================

Top End audiophile DAPs
====================
Ibasso DX100:$940

iRiver AK100: $730
Colorfly C4 Pro 32:$700
HifiMan HM 801:$680

I also found there are another two which are more expensive sliver plated cables on ebay:

1) 3.5mm MALE to MALE Stereo Audio Cable for MP3/PC Baolong 3.5 stereo silver cable ($38.53)

2) silver cable 3.5mm MALE to MALE Stereo Audio Cable Moon goddes & Plug CANARE F1 ($57.80)

i bought this cable and am very happy with it. clearly a better cable not to be compared to stock cable from BH. sound differences are clearly audible unless death ear :-)

as concerns cable hype you are right, sometimes people pay a few thousands for a meter of top notch cable without even hearing this... but at the same time some other people buy expensive gear and connect that with cheap cabling and then complain that their CDP or amp does not sound great.

you not to believe in this but my daughter till recent was not music fan, but even she could hear a difference between cheaper German made inAkustik and proper high end cable from Chord on her Cambridge Audio rig.

so believe me, this small cable will make audible difference and i can assure you in this since even my wife who does not have ideal hearing like even she can tell the difference by hearing

come on, why would you want to spoil our party??? :-))))))))))))

if seriously i can only praise that little Palic Baloong cable i bought, differences were really audible... i am happy i found and ordered this before seeing Nordost silver interconnect for 75$ as i have much faith in real high-end gear and Nordost makes some very best cables in high-end world.

Cyber, i do not doubt there are better DAPs out there and i won't be surprised to hear that.

issue here is different, this is WHAT is good for you and your ears.

if you love what you hear and you feel this is exactly how you want to listen to your music then why bother?

as from reading various forums i have seen only Altmann Terra getting rave reviews from all users. this is the only DAP which seems to have nearly 100% satisfaction rate. others i remember were not so happy about Ibasso, some were not happy with AK100 or HF801... the only other DAP which was loudly praised was C4.

that said i do not believe investing in DAP without investing in high end IEMs will make much sense. so if you pay 800$ for a DAP you also should be willing to pay same or higher price for IEMs or full size headphones.

for me in current situation IEM gets priority. while i am very happy with Musical Fidelity i might be tempted to add a few more IEMs including some better 4BA or some higher price hybrids... only then i can tell if C3 is too little or too much.

upgrade path is addiction and once in a while you must decide where to stop or you will never be happy IMHO.

I agree with Gintaras, and having not tried many of those higher end DAP's, I'm reluctant to comment on them. I can say that something like the C3 + C&C BH combo leaves players like Hifiman HM-601 and Colorfly CK4's headphones out behind. Remembering I said from their headphone outs, and I do prefer the C3 combo over HM-601 using it's line out to C&C BH. There comes a point where you have to stop and meet sanity, that's why I think C3 + C&C BH combo is a good kit, because you're not breaking your wallet, but getting far above average SQ. happy medium if you will. I also agree there's no point in upgrading your source to higher end DAP's unless your headphone or IEM's capable of showing such improvements.

H20, right and if you want to gain stage, bass punch, etc etc ... You need upgrade to full size Headphones which opens a whole new way into portable audio because most likely you will also need stronger power amp for your headphones ...

That said i am very happy with my combo and if i need real punch, stage and hall acoustic i can always turn to my hifi rig which no earphone can match in this.

Took my C3 w/triple fi's for its first walk today.  The sound was quite a bit better than my iPhone 4. However, trying to change volume was something of a nightmare compared to simply pushing the volume button on the phone.  Advancing tracks was also somewhat difficult while walking- I do have the included screen protector on, may take it off to give me more "touch sensitivity."  Screen is either too touchy or not touchy enough.  I'm going to make folders of like-volumed songs to alleviate the need to change volume on the fly.  That may also remove the issue of advancing tracks.  Takes away my ability to adjust sound or change tracks, but I guess it's a tradeoff for the improved sound.  As to an amp as discussed above, while it might be nice to try that, I think the size precludes it- at least for me.  Though you never can tell, I may decide in the future to try it.  But, all in all, I'm happy with the C3.  I'll just have to adjust to the handling of it- I'm very happy with the sound, as I like non-EQ'd sound and have had Kef speakers for years for my home listening.

Just confirming my 32GB Class 10 card is working without any problems on both Colorfly CK4 and C3. I purchased from a local Australian seller. He'd sold over 1700 of them so I assumed I was pretty safe. $23.95

I bring to you.... the MASTER! :tongue_smile:

welcome on board pal. fully share your experience about touch screen. but i was prepared for that and so C3 was not able to piss me off completely. that said i find it really not smart for colorfly people not to put hardcore buttons additional to un-responsive touch pad. however keep telling IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SOUND !!! i do it this way

btw, what i find a bit too much is how gladly people praise iPods.... my daughter has couple of them and they are far worse when you need to organize your files which have no image embed and tags... not mention you need spend a lot of time before your collection of songs will appear nicely on iPod. add to that the need to use BOGUS iTunes software which i personally HATE and would use only for system update on our iphones and ipads in house. as much as love apple products as much i hate iTunes which is worst ever nightmare and freaking annoying crap.

uh..ohhhh.... sorry for this morning rant

Good morning from a newbie here  :) Just got my C3 from ebay on a recommendation from here and thank you very much - 70 quid all in and its just a wonderful device I have upgraded the software to 1.0.0.3 too which wasnt any sort of issue - One quick question is does it play Ogg Vorbis and does it matter which class micro-sd card I get ? What is the maximum it currently supports ?
