I know I know... another "closed headphones gaming soundstage plz" thread but I have searched through the forums found a lot of suggestions and now I want a decisive comparison/opinion on what I should buy.
Keep in mind these are mainly going to be used for gaming (FPS) on the PC.

1) Beyer DT770 PRO (250 Ohms)  OR DT770M- I heard good things about these and gaming. However I do not have a amp to run these, would I absolutely need a amp with these cans?
$180 CAD

2) Audio-Technica ATH M50 - Again I have read lots of suggestions to get these but I am of course worried about the soundstage.
$200 CAD

3) Ultrasone Hfi-780 - With all the praise of these headphones I was one click away from picking these up. However once again it seems like I would need a amp to run these and would thus exceed my budget. How does the 580 compare to these? Would they both need a amp to run?
$250 + $40 shipping CAD

Thanks audiophiles!

I haven't heard the M50s and never got to try out the 780s with gaming but the DT770s are going to be my recommendation. They are great for movies and gaming. Lots of bass and great soundstage for a closed can equals an involving gaming experience. I have a pair of DT770s hooked up to my PC right now for games. I'd consider buying used though. I got my pair on the FS forum for sub $100 USD.

Do you have the pro or the DT770m? Do you use a amp with your setup?

I use the Pro 80 ohm. Yep, I'm using an amp. I'm currently using an EF2 or uDac with my desktop.

DT770 M has the smallest sound stage ever, not much bass and recessed treble.Forgetaboutit if you want a headphone for music listening or gaming.
Have a look at this thread:

DT770Pro and M50 sound good. Difficult to choose among them (I have both). If I had to choose I'd take the one with the lowest price tag.

I can vouch for the M-50s.  fluffygdog95 and I watched Jurassic Park with our cans (he had his Denon D2000s) and it just magnified the experience immensely.

All right I found a website called stuido economik which is based in Quebec. They have Beyer DT770pro (80ohms) for $180. I'm this close to getting these... has anyone dealt with studio economik before?

About the worst choice you could make for a non-amplified source.  They have good soundstage but otherwise sound terrible (painful, metallic highs, sloppy exaggerated bass, missing mids).  Of what I've owned (7 closed headphones and counting), Denons D5000, and probably D2000, but haven't heard those, have comparable soundstage, do well without amplification and sound MUCH better overall that DT770-80.

Or A700s if you need closed.  They have a very large soundstage that works well for gaming.
