Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to move my Schiit Valhalla 2 to the office.

I am looking for a good set of closed headphones to use on a daily basis with the Valhalla 2. I understand that the amp works best with 250-600ohm headphones, where closed headphones are mainly portable and 20-40ohm.

My budget is around $150 (£150). So far I only found the Beyerdynamic DT 770 250ohm. But opinions on that are mixed. What would be other good contenders?

Sennheiser HD250 linear.
Discontinued,can only be found used.
Glorious sounding HP,total opposite of the bright and brassy DT770

Soundmagic HP150 or HP151 headphones, should(?) be at least a little better then the DT770.

+1 on the DT150, particularly for jazz and classical. They wipe the floor with the DT770-250 (I have both and have compared them). Also (if you can still find a pair) try the Fischer Audio FA-002W.

Having said that, the Custom Cans damping mod tightened up the bass on the 770s considerably!

So given all reactions I read the DT770 is out. At the moment I am dobuting between the Shure SRH840, Soundmagic 151 and PSB M4U1 (but that one is about 50% more expensive than the other two).

There's also the sennheiser HD569 but as I already own the Momentum 1, I'm a bit hesitant on that one as it might be too similar.

Choices, choices.....

Why not DT150?

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. In the end the decision was made by my wallet as I found a great deal on the Sennheiser HD569 (£100 instead of £150).

I have to say I am very happy with it. I was a bit affraid it would sound too similar to my Momentum 1's but they are a world apart. And I'd even go as far as saying they're closer to my K702.

Happy times!

Glad you are enjoying the 569. I tried to get a more extended listen at my local "buymore" after I heard them at rmaf, but only to find no demo anymore and discontinued. Seems they can't waste space on good stuff that does not sell like beats, haha
